We have a small shop on this working farm and a restroom. There is no charge to visit and take pictures of our fields. If you come during open hours on Friday and Saturday (11-3) we will answer questions as long as we are not checking a customer out.

Labor Day weekend is coming up, and we decided it was a good excuse to open up the farm for all three days. The times are:

Saturday- September 5 11-4
Sunday-September 6 12-3
Monday-September 7 11-3

We’ve planned a Kids Farm Adventure for families to enjoy together. Kids can pick up a collection bag and head out around the farm to explore and harvest, create some art, and decorate a cookie—all at their own pace.

There’s plenty for everyone else to enjoy, too. The butterflies are all over the gardens, and there are flowers, lavender and herbs to cut. Bring a picnic and stay awhile, wander through the gardens, or join one of our butterfly tours.

We’ll also have a few special demonstrations during the weekend. On Saturday, Amy will give a lavender bush a live “haircut” and talk about how we care for our plants, while Theresa demonstrates how she puts together her long-lasting bouquets. On Monday, we’ll have a wreath-making demonstration.

And, of course, the shop will be open with plenty of Onederings baked goods—fudge, shortbread cookies and scones.

Again we will be open September 5-7 with the following hours Saturday 11–4, Sunday 12–3 and Monday 11–3. Theresa and I video a short take on catching butterflies. You have to be patient and hide the net down on your side and come up at them where they can't really see it. The you have to be quick , come down on them and before you pick the net up reach and to the top of the net and shut off their escape. then when you are done just turn the net upright and they will fly out. Some are very hard to get and some are pretty easy. The two I capture here are of the easy variety

Herbes de Provence

Here is a really good recipe I got from allrecipes. If you use even 2 or three dried herbs from your garden to make this the difference in your end product recipe is simply remarkable. I trend these up really fine in a coffee grinder so when I use in a recipe I can just throw it in. Usually you will put all the herbs in a bag and cook it with your stew then pull the bag out. But if you grind really fine this is not needed and the flavor is fantastic. I use fresh tarragon, oregano, lavender and rosemary.

Amy finished a lot of bush trimming before she went on vacation. She said she found a 3 inch praying mantis scurrying away on every 4th or 5th plant. That is a lot of praying mantises. No wonder we have seen no spittle bugs or ground hornets on or under our lavender plants. We hatch preying mantis eggs in the spring and scatter over our field each year and never have issues with either of these pests
