Hey Fluff Lovers. It’s been a hot minute and you deserve an update.
First- The Sugar Shack at the 59/46 junction is no more. It was such a great experience, Randy was super kind to allow it. He and his crew are still there on the corner creating the best insulated tiny buildings, dog condos, raised garden beds, and walk in coolers! Check them out!
Second- this one I’ve been quiet about, but I’ve been watching what is happening to my friends and neighbors and it’s time to speak. Last fall I got a ‘courtesy’ call from the Clay County Health Department, letting me know about the changes in permits, etc.
✅ Let me state I have no problem confirming to all state laws. I take training seriously, I am certified as a Food Safety Manager, not just a ServSafe. Food Safety Matters!

That phone call left me feeling hollow and downright sad. Not because of the content, but because of the tone. It was not supportive, rather it felt combative and predatory against my business. At the time I did not understand why this health department lady was so agitated. As time went on I observed, in somewhat shock, what was happening to small local businesses around me in relation to the Health Department.
…
After much reflection I decided to not re-open Mr. Fluff this year. I do not desire to work with or support municipal departments that treat the community in this way. I’m not talking about the permits and regulations- we need health safety guidelines.
Rather, I’m talking about the Attitude and Approach of a department that we pay taxes for so it can support our community.
…
Thank you to all who shared the joy of a little spun sugar last year, you made my summer a beautiful one. The incredible smiles and genuine kindness were a blessing to my soul I will not soon forget.
Please remember that FD&C # food colors are the worst for us and our famalia - read those food labels, look for natural alternatives!!!!
Much Love to this wonderful community,
Jen (Mr. Fluff’s Cotton Candy)
