That resting Floof face. 🐈

We consider our barn cats to be an asset around here! They keep our barn and yard free from rodents and ((most)) snakes! 👏🏼👏🏼

Since Sunny joined us in November, she has had a hard time fitting in! She’s bottom of the herd and nervous about all the things. ((Except when she’s around Christy, that is!))

Today we put the two youngsters out to pasture together and they hit it off immediately! Chowing down on hay side by side like they’ve been together forever! Praise be!

Listen, not everyone will be your cup of tea! God made us all different to make the world work. But when you find your people ((or even just your one person)), appreciate them! Make time for them and speak words of life over them.

Life isn’t about collecting a lot of pennies, it’s about some quality quarters! ❤️

After 2 weeks of settling in and adjusting to our little ranch, we are finally starting to work with Sunny (Maybetheone)!

Sunny is an off-the-track-Thoroughbred who ran her last race in June so she’s now looking for new purpose outside of the racing world. Our goal for her is trail riding and, possibly one day, letting her raise up some foals for us!

But for now, we want her to learn that humans are kind and to be trusted. She has such a gentle eye and settles easily but is still unsure of our intentions.

So every day, she will be brushed and scratched and introduced to alllll the things… and every day she will be given all the love our hearts have to give, because she deserves it. ❤️

How does that saying go?

“I’m about as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs!”

Yeah, that one. Relatable.

I’ve done portraits in the past. Weddings, too! But I keep hearing a voice say “you’re too rusty” and “they’ll be disappointed”… so I’m really very nervous and hesitant to try again!

But my kids. They’re watching. And doggone it, if I’m going to tell them to “chase your dreams” and “be brave” and “try new things” and “practice makes perfect”… then I need to pattern that for them in action, not just words.

So today, I’m prepping for a couple of family sessions and praying that God will bless these families through me and this camera today. Gotta start ((or restart)) somewhere! ❤️

Listen, I know we can’t live in fear. Life is too short to stay tucked away and not live.

BUT, if you find us being overly cautious with this equine virus that is currently spreading throughout the US, it’s because although we know they’re “just animals”, they’re also part of our family.

They’re the shoulder we lean into for a hug and the escape we run to when we feel misunderstood or unwanted by humans. They’re worth protecting.

So while you may call it fear, we call it being good stewards of the beautiful equines God has graciously placed in our care… and we are going to do all we can to keep our herd healthy! ❤️

As I walked the farm doing chores this morning, I noticed the world around me. Sometimes we get too busy for that. I noticed the frost that has arrived with the changing of seasons. I noticed the trees moving into their rest period and the sun slowly starting to warm the earth back up for the day.

And I heard God.

This earth was created for us. To sustain our lives and to point us to our Creator. So many times I think we get it backwards. Like somehow we are just here, taking space on earth, and we don’t take time to see God in it all.

He sees and sustains the sparrows, yes. But His Son didn’t choose to die for the sparrows. He takes care of this earth for our good and care, as yet another love letter to our hearts. He performed the greatest act of love for us by sending His Son to earth to live among us, teach us, and then sacrifice Himself for us… His heart is for us.

This week we have to say our earthly ‘goodbyes’ to a good friend. It was sudden, tragic, and still feels like a dream. But we know that this goodbye is just more of a ‘see ya later’. He knew God and His love. We WILL see him again.

Friend, sit and soak this in today. God loves YOU. The Creator of our world made it all to sustain YOU and to point YOU to His love. Jesus died for YOU so that your eternity could be spent with Him. His love is personal and so, so good.

If this is all new information to you, please message me. I would love to introduce you to your Savior. ❤️

We share a lot about our horses but did you know we also have goats?? 😍
Horses have only lived on the ranch for 9 years and goats for 12+! We have transitioned from goats as pets to a small herd of Boer and Boer crosses for 4-H market animals. They also produce enough milk for us to get back into soap making… one day! 🙏🏼
Our first kid (a little doeling) of the year is on the ground and doing well! I miss raising “pet” goats vs the market animals because we could freshen when it’s spring and ya know… warm! 🥶
