MISSING since 5/7 PM or 5/8 AM from CLAYTON, NORTH CAROLINA. Semi-feral barn cats, microchipped, spayed and neutered, and left ear tipped.

I've posted on several local FB groups, Nextdoor app, and the Ring app as well as local shelter websites. I figured I might as well post here too. Two out of three of our barn cats went missing at the same time. Rowdy, our all black cat is still with us and fine except for missing them very much. I've handed out flyers, put up signs, talked to as many neighbors as possible (our farm is 40 acres and beside a neighborhood so we have A LOT of neighbors!). I've talked to pet search and rescue people, checked local shelters. Had a handful of sightings that ended up being look-a-like cats and not them. After all of this, I don't have a single sighting or lead as to what happened to them. We've searched the farm's buildings, trees... Everywhere we could think of for weeks, both during the day and at night. We've asked neighbors to listen and check their sheds and garages. Nothing. We do have foxes and sometimes coyotes in the area. I don't want to give up on them, but I'm completely heartbroken and just don't know what else to do.

Poor Rowdy is so clingy since they left which in a way I'm grateful for because hopefully it means he won't go far from our house. I may not be cut out for having outdoor cats... I was in the process of getting them more comfortable with being indoors, but being feral, they legitimately panic if you shut the door behind them when they're inside. I did everything I could to make this farm safe and peaceful for them. My heart just breaks for them πŸ’”.

Monday mornings are for kitties, Crocs, and mismatched socks! πŸ˜πŸ‘

Russ' routine before breakfast and dinner must include figure 8s around your legs and lots of head scratches. That's just the way it is. He's even teaching Rowdy that head scratches are a pretty cool way to start the day πŸ€—.

The older girls have all but stopped laying, but the new girls are just getting started! I'm still waiting on some brown speckled eggs from the Welsummers, but the Australorps, Easter eggers, and olive eggers are getting the hang of it already ☺️.

The new barn kitties are free! They're doing great and mostly getting along with Rowdy, our other feral cat. Rowdy has hissed a few times at Moo (the black and white one) mostly because she can be quite overbearing when seeking attention 😳. Russ (the orange boy) tolerates her "in your face" greetings, but Rowdy is not too sure yet. Luckily she doesn't dwell on hurt feelings very long as there's just too many bugs to chase and swat! πŸ˜‚ Girl's got thangs to do y'all πŸ˜‚ (also not sure she EVER sleeps!) Russ is just a sweetheart who puts up with her shenanigans and is not afraid to take a nap!

Our first pumpkin on the farm! Is it the biggest? No. Was the planting timed right for fall? No. Did I even plant it on purpose?!?! NOPE lol πŸ˜‚. These are volunteer pumpkins that I let grow and do their thing out of my compost pile. It comes courtesy of last year's fall decor pumpkins that I obviously didn't compost well enough to kill the seeds πŸ€£πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I've tried planting pumpkins (on purpose!) in our field last year, but the soil just wasn't right. At least I have confirmation that compost is the way to go!! πŸ‘

Cover crops!!! This is our browntop millet cover crop that we are trying out in one of our planting fields. Once full grown, it will get mowed and left in the field over the winter to add organic material and the rootstock left over will help prevent erosion in the off season. Right now it's just a lovely sea of green πŸ₯°.

Yes, another cat post... 😁. These are just to say we use the term "working cat" loosely around here πŸ˜‰. Rowdy may be working harder on his John Deere sponsorship than actually catching mice πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ.

Before dinner... After dinner... Rowdy loves dinner and goes into total loaf mode soon after 🍞. Also haven't seen any mouse p**p in the barn since letting him loose. I'm not sure he actually hunts anything (refer again to 2nd photo... 🀣), but hopefully they stay away. And if they don't, well I've got a pretty darn entertaining cat either way πŸ˜†.

Can't beat these colors from the garden! It may not look like much... The heat sure has been hard on the tomato and pepper transplants. For those that don't know, we plant in an open field and we have been trying to regenerate the soil for the past year. And full confession: I'm not a master gardener!! I've worked with and cared for all sorts of animals and have been a vet tech for over 15 years, but I'm still very new to plants. There has definitely been a steep learning curve. We don't have high tunnels or even a greenhouse (yet!) so we are fully at the mercy of the sun, weather, critters that love a good buffet, and unfortunately poor soil quality. I've learned that good soil is WAY more complicated than just throwing out commercial fertilizers! So, through cover crops and well... chicken p**p πŸ˜‚ we are doing our best to change that! Regular composting and vermicomposting (yes we still have our worms!) will hopefully turn things around. In the meantime, I'm thankful for anything this land wants to give me, large or small! Oh and just wait until the blackberries ripen 😁😍.

I've got bell, Hungarian Wax, japaleΓ±o, serrano, and poblano peppers coming in too. Along with the tomatoes, it's going to be my most colorful garden yet! πŸŒΆοΈπŸ«‘πŸ”₯
