Our laying hens live in a chicken tracker. A lightweight mobile coop we move each day so they always have access to fresh grass. 🌿

It keeps them safe, gives them a clean spot to forage daily, and helps naturally fertilize the pasture. They get variety, bugs, sunshine… and we get the freshest eggs with deep golden yolks.

Just one more way we care for the animals and the land.

If you’ve got a bit of yard space, you can absolutely try this setup yourself! Chicken trackers are a great option for small flocks and backyard homesteads. 🐓

One thing you’ll quickly notice about our steers is how naturally curious they are! These young males are always eager to check out new sights, sounds, and smells around the pasture. Whether it’s a new fence post, a piece of equipment, or even a visitor, steers love to investigate and learn about their surroundings.

That curiosity helps them adapt and stay alert. Important traits for healthy, happy cattle. Plus, it makes for some pretty entertaining moments on the farm when they come up close just to say “hello!”

Ever wonder how cows drink on pasture, especially in the winter? 💧
We use automatic waterers designed to resist freezing temps and always provides clean water.

How does it work?
🔄 Float-Valve System – Think of it like a toilet tank! Inside the waterer is a float (like a little buoy).

When the water level drops (because the cattle drank it), the float lowers.
That triggers the valve to open, refilling the tank with fresh water.
Once full, the float rises and shuts off the water. No overflow, no waste!

🌾 What Are Round Bales & Why Do We Use Them? 🌾

If you’ve ever driven past a field and seen those big rolls of hay, you’ve seen round bales! But what are they exactly, and why do we make hay this way?

What is a Round Bale?
It’s a large, rolled-up bundle of hay — usually weighing 800 to 1,100 lbs — shaped like a giant cylinder. Think of it like rolling up a sleeping bag… but made of grass! 🐄

Why Use Round Bales?
✅ Faster to make – A round baler can work quickly, which is helpful when we’re racing the weather.
✅ Easy to store
✅ Less labor – We can move them with a tractor instead of by hand.
✅ Great for feeding – Cattle can eat straight from the bale in a ring feeder, especially in winter.

Round bales help us preserve the nutrients in our hay and make feeding more efficient — which keeps our herd healthy all year long. 🐮💪

Cows Love a Well-Worn Path

Cows tend to walk in single file along the same trail. They are creatures of habit and will often use the same paths day after day. These “cow trails” get worn into the pasture over time.

Why? It’s efficient and safe. Following familiar routes helps them conserve energy, avoid obstacles, and stick close to the herd.
