A suitable site with room for expansion was found in Delaware for the gardens to be moved and transplanted. Willow Rock Gardens, LLC was established in Delaware in 2009. Willow Rock is Heather “Lily Lady” Hotaling, and her daughter, Amanda “Jack” Hotaling. Jack has grown up in the gardens and is truly a “Jack of All Trades.” Jack is also the director of youth activities. Willow Rock Gardens became
a family affair when Heather’s mom, Grace Rishell, joined the ranks! Previously, Grace only worked on the creative touches but now she is working with the lilies too! Willow Rock Gardens, is a working display garden, we are open weekly from 9-1, and by appointment or chance. We are currently growing over 5000 varieties of daylilies and continue to add more. The daylilies are displayed in over 100 themed beds, including Delaware’s first 9/11 Memorial Garden. In 2011, after less than 2 years here, we were the first in Delaware to earn the designations from the American Hemerocallis Society (AHS) as both a “Display Garden” and also as a “Historic Garden”. While gardening is a serious business, we believe life is just too short not to have fun. We have set up themes within the garden to make each trip an “adventure.” Start your adventure getting your picture taken with “Lilybug”, an old 8N tractor that has been painted like a ladybug (Delaware’s State Bug), and enjoy the “That’s Wild” bed, continue on to enjoy the Historic Walk, join in with the Pirates as they sail the High Seas, beware of Eliza-Witch as she mixes potions with her herbs, see Delaware’s largest collection of Siloam daylilies, little ones can draw a picture near Betty’s Artist Garden, Honor our Troops at Uncle Skip’s Navy see real vegetables grow behind the Farm to Table bed, and then take a bridge to the Land of Oz….
