Hi everyone. It has been a while since we posted on here and I (Mathew) wanted to give an update on what's going on.

The very short abridged version of it is Emma and I are no longer together; we are still good friends; Seven Winds is still a thing, the vision is just evolving.

Some more context if you want it is this. We started Seven Winds with a dream, a vision, a set of desires and goals. And we started out this year on the journey to achieve all of those things. And what we (or ill just speak for myself) what I found was that dream is absolutely beautiful and worthwhile, but I'm not ready for it yet.

Before I can go there, I need to take care of some stuff right here (like inside me stuff). I need and want to grow and change in some ways that didn't feel possible within the environment and relationship we had created. And so the best thing for me to do right now is focus on my own growth so that I can be a full, resilient, mature person growing the life I want.

So Emma is gone for now, and who knows what the future holds. Im holding her in my heart and I know shes doing the same for me. Yeah its not been a super fun process; yeah I'm pretty sad; yeah its kinda been tough.. but damn if I aint growin like a mo********er...

Other than that I just want to say that Seven Winds is gonna keep on growing too. I am stepping back from the retreat aspect of the business for now and am focusing more on the farm; looking to grow and share a lot more food with people next year! I will get back to posting here more regularly. I've just needed time to process stuff and that is still ongoing. But this dream is 100% still alive; just changing and shifting with everything else.

The pictures I included are all beautiful foods that Emma and I grew together this year. I'll never forget these first harvests as long as I live

Put ya shovel in the air and lemme hear say YEA !!

(YEA!!)

Making good progress on our first significant building project, which will be a beautiful compost toilet.

The bottom portion of the composting chamber has been poured, thanks to the help of our friend Courtney who came to visit Seven Winds for a few days. Thanks Courtney!

Now we will build up the chambers with concrete block, with the help of two of Mathew's cousins who are here for a 2 week mini internship!

Eventually we will build a timber framed structure on top.

Look for our next blog that will go into detail on natural vs unnatural materials and the pros and cons of human labor vs machine labor!

Dinner tonight is from the garden!

Is there anything more satisfying than harvesting food that you yourself have watched grow from a tiny little sprout into a big tasty energy blob?

Zucchini and beets, and carrots and Lettuce (not pictured lol) are on the menu!

If you haven't started gardening yet this year there's two more whole seasons left to join the fun!

(P.S. TURTLE POWER !! 🐢✊)

We had a fantastic Grand Opening Day event this past Saturday! Thank you so much to everyone that came out!

We got to share what we've been doing so far, our methods, our goals, and then we all got our hands dirty preparing some sweet potatoe beds and transplanting some berry bushes. We wrapped up the afternoon with a delicious farm-to-table lunch! 🥬🌻🌶🥒

It was so nice to see the space alive with people, working together and making good use of a gorgeous Spring day! Extra nice to have a bunch of kids out, learning real skills and then running around with flower crowns on their heads 😝

Looking forward to many more days like this ahead 😁

YAHOOOO!!

Feels great to see stuff we planted actually grow! We've had some ups and downs with our first attempts getting frozen, eaten, trampled, or just dying on transplant but some stuff is starting to look good!

Continuing to experiment, observe, and try try again! We are still in the little sprout phase of our farming life for sure! Celebrating the growth we've found so far 🙌✨👏😊

Flowers are not all that's in bloom right now!

We've been feeling a true blossoming of community here in the past few weeks. We've started to meet some really awesome people who's work and lives align with ours, and feel really welcomed with warmth and openness.

So many people here keep saying that Clayton has a magical thing about it... feeling that more and more!!

Planting continues, as do many projects and improvements around the farm, and retreats and collaborations and events and so many exciting things are also starting to blossom!!

Our opening day garden work party and farm to table lunch is May 22nd! Put it on the ol calendar folks!

Fermentation!

We have been playing with the ginger bug - a wild-cultured blend of ginger, sugar, and water traditionally used to make gingerbeer. With our gingerbug we have been making some delicious, naturally-fermented, probiotic sodas.

Come find us tomorrow at the Clayton Farmers Market to try some homemade goodies:
- hibiscus-blueberry-ginger soda
- sunflower seed butter
- apple date granola bark
- carrot muffins
- and for a special handful of people, doggie cupcakes for your furry friends!

Everything this week is vegan and gluten free, made with organic whole grains from .

Also check out our newest blog post on fermentation, with instructions for how to make your own ginger bug! Website link in bio.

This week at 7 Winds:

Our first group of "guests"!!!

My Good Friend Clint, Uncle Jerry, Aunt Eve, and Cousin Simon are all visiting this week, and we put them to work planting a bunch of blueberries, tea plants, and some honeyberries.

Emma also led us in some fantastic morning yoga, with the sun rising over the mountains, WOW! Feels so good!

And our first group dinners, and a chance to speak some gratitude around the table. A lot to be thankful for here!

Exciting times, continuing to plant out a diverse array of plant friends, and preparing our spaces for more guests to come later this year!
