We had an emergency equine vet visit today. When I went into our barn today, I had seen a significant amount of blood in the hallway, the barn aisle, and each open stall. I found out it was our Black Jack. He hurt his back right foot. I tried to rinse the wound off with water to see how involved it was. I could tell it hurt him. I placed a call to our vet and fortunately they were not too far away and got to our place quickly. He quickly assessed the wound, cleaned it and bandaged it. Black Jack was given antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory medication to help with the pain and inflammation. He was placed on stall rest. The actual laceration was in an area that is hard to stitch. He has two follow up visits scheduled.
At first, I did not know how he injured himself. The vet has a great tech Morgan and she noticed a fishing hook in his tail. Some one left a fishing hook and line by our pond. This is what caused the injury.
We are hoping Black Jack heals well and has a full recovery. β€οΈβπ©Ή
