Feeling moderately rageyā¦.. read on if youāre curious. In the last 72 hours:
⢠someone pried open the cash box, damaging it and stealing cash
⢠someone else walked away with armloads of bouquets in broad daylight without paying, even with another person standing right there
⢠and tonight, we came up short on cash. Video showed this person clearly had more cash in hand, chose not to pay the full amount.
Just a PSA:
We do have cameras. Everywhere. Inside, outside, down the street, and directly in front of your face if youāre anywhere near the stand. We have all of this on camera from every angle. Also, thereās an ATM directly across the street at the bank if anyone finds they donāt have cash on hand and/or donāt use Venmo.
I believe most people are good. Iād also like to believe at least one of these incidents may have been accidental. If ANY of these instances were you, or someone you know, Iām asking you to message me or complete the payments with cash to the box. No questions asked. Authorities will be contacted otherwise.
At this time, I am choosing not to publicly blast camera screenshots all over social media. Iād rather give people the opportunity to make things right before public embarrassment. But if I donāt already know ya, it wonāt be difficult to figure out who ya are.
In case your mama never taught ya, or you just didnāt care to learn:
SHORT PAYING IS THEFT.
TAKING THINGS YOU DID NOT PAY FOR OR EARN IS STEALING.
This is my CAREER, my FULL-TIME JOB.
This is NOT a hobby.
When you steal from the flower stand, you are not stealing from some giant corporation. Youāre stealing from a business Iāve worked my ass off for years to build. Youāre stealing from my kids, my family, and our future dreams.
While I absolutely love what I do, I can honestly say I work harder and longer than most people I know, for far less pay. Building a business is not easy. Farming is not easy. Flower farming specifically is physically exhausting, mentally draining, emotionally consuming work⦠but somehow still the most fulfilling and rewarding job I could ever have. Itās 95% planning, physical labor and (maybe) 5% (or less) āplaying with flowers.ā
The self-serve stand allows me to sell the flowers I grow at or near wholesale pricing, making something beautiful and meaningful affordable for our community. The flowers Iāve grown for months, started from seed, farmed until harvest, designed, marketed, packaged, and delivered.
Flowers connect people in some of lifeās biggest moments.
Funeral? Flowers.
New baby? Flowers.
Graduation? Flowers.
Need a pick-me-up? Flowers.
Wedding? Flowers.
Kinda wild how flowers become part of so many different chapters of peopleās lives. Thatās a whole post in itselfā¦
Some people may say I should expect theft with a self-serve stand, but honestly, Iāve had VERY minimal issues in all the years Iāve done this. Which is exactly why the last three days have been so shocking, unusual, and infuriating.
The stand will still be stocked. This changes nothing. Ranunculus and anemones are beautiful right now, and the peonies are absolutely exploding.
307 Bridge Street, Clearfield
Cash & Venmo
Open 24/7
Come find your favorite bouquet, PAY, and please leave my hard-earned cash alone.
And finally, it wouldnāt be right if I didnāt say a HUGE thank you to every single person who has done things right, or has supported my farm in any way for all these years. Every purchase, every share, every like, every kind word⦠it all matters more than you know. I truly appreciate every single one of you.
Iād love to thank you all personally someday. Better yet, come join us at one of our U-Picks beginning in July so I actually can. šø
Signing off this rant before I say something else that my Mama or Jesus wouldnāt like.. Trust me, this was the G-rated version⦠mostly.
Find me rage planting in the field until I get over it, trying to re-make peace with the fact that there are all kinds in humanity.
