Lake county blackberries are more than just sweet seasonal fruit. Blackberries from this county are of superior size, sweetness and longevity of bloom. Picking is not for the faint of heart- many perils including snakes and lots of thorns. But for prairie girls like Chef blackberries are like the holy grail of the harvest season. We don’t purchase berries- we have cultivated relationships with farms that have private caches of berries untouched by pesticides or chemicals of any kind- we pick berries.
It’s starts with my berry dog of a son who carefully checks every day after 4th of July and begins picking as soon as they are sweet.
Often time chef takes a crew. This year, I have several freezers full of berries and peaches.
My commitment to the finest and freshest is bigger than a order form for Costco or Sysco. Locally sourced- at the source- by the pie maker- it doesn’t get much more organic than this folks.
