Siouxie here 👋 I had a chance to sit down with some leading voices in the low carb space and discuss some important issues on ingredients and the art of food making for general consumption. Grab a cuppa and enjoy 😉

Siouxie Boshoff just wanted a clean, sugar-free gummy bear. What she uncovered instead was a murky world of undisclosed ingredients, sneaky food industry loopholes, and additives that can wreck metabolic health.

• A production manager told her she could add an anti-foaming agent without putting it on the label.
• She reveals how companies disguise toxic additives under “natural flavors.”
• Even doctors have been fooled—until they hear her speak.

A physician at our last symposium admitted he avoided Siouxie’s The Scrummy Sweets Co. booth all weekend, assuming her products were just another sugar-free gimmick. But after hearing her talk, he completely changed his mind.

If you care about your health and want to demand better from the food industry, this is an episode you don’t want to miss.

We have BIG NEWS! We just received a truckload of our gummies, and let me tell you…😍

The colors are as close to perfect as I could hope for—organic natural colors never looked so good!❤️🧡💛💚💜💖💫

The flavors are just 🍏🍊🍋🫐🍓🍉🤌

The texture is sooooo good (they still don’t stick in your teeth, which I have taken for granted, but really matters to so many). 😁

Aaaaand 🥁🥁🥁These little guys are now officially ✅ and yes, still allergen free! 💚

We have the bigger standard gummy bags now available in a new 8 Pack Carton (like the original box—just smaller). And the NEW Snack Packs in a cute cereal box style Snack Pack.

We just did the largest Natural Products Expo West Show in Anaheim, and showcased them, and they were a huge hit. Both sizes! This is literally what I’ve dreamt of since we first launched in 2021, and I’m so excited to share them with you now. 🥳

Sugar-free never tasted so good 😊

I made a deal with God. If he showed me the path, I promised to light the way for others. ☀️🕯️💙

Will doesn’t need sugar to grow.
Will doesn’t need to run high to prevent lows.
Will doesn’t need Doritos to feel normal.
Will doesn’t need to worry about anything.

Will DOES need nutritious proteins and fats.
Will DOES need a positive mindset.
Will DOES need sunshine and exercise.
Will DOES need the confidence that he is safe.

It’s not easy changing a diet that you have been following your entire life. It’s not easy going against the mainstream and fighting the guidelines set up by an organization that is failing the lives of diabetics. It’s not easy feeling like you need to convince others that food matters, and the way you choose to live is what is best for your family.

Someone asked me the other day if I had any advice on how to monetize social media. Free bread mix and donuts are sometimes sent to me, but I don’t ask or receive anything for sharing our story. It’s not my purpose or need.

I share for a very specific purpose. To hold the light for those in the dark, and fullfill the promise I made years ago.

Life is an echo. What I give off, comes back. The greatest way to find gratitude is by serving others. I’m incredibly grateful to those who follow and share their success. It makes my light burn brighter.

We can all

lunch box! Grain Free Planet multi use bread mix (ham, cheese, bacon and Mayo). The Scrummy Sweets Co. snack size gummy pack.

Will has run club right after school, so I hold all R insulin. The protein should hold him up, but I packed a big Quest cookie and he has smarties in case he needs a boost. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

This.❤️🥹 Even if you don’t have diabetes, you know someone who does. Type 1 Diabetes is manageable, and this story is proof. I’ve learned so much from Will and Goody- Our SMART CARB Life and she is helping others.❤️💫

It was a very specific moment that made me realize that I was going to find another way to T1.

It was days after diagnosis. The whole family was on edge. Nobody was sleeping, days were full of constant worry and every time Will told me he was hungry I would get a giant pit in my stomach. I felt like his life was dangling in my hands. And it was.

We had just sat down to dinner and all of a sudden, Will said his stomach hurt. He couldn’t eat. Panic struck. I had just done a math equation to add up all the apples, tator tots and chicken tenders. I had just given him a shot of a liquid I knew could kill him…and he couldn’t eat.

I started yelling, he started crying, the other kids were crying…I started crying. It was a very sad and upsetting moment. How could he continue on like this? How could I continue like this?

And so, I decided to find another way.

Astonishing that reducing sugar to manage diabetes isn’t even an option for most doctors to tell their patients. Even more astonishing is the push of sugar and carbs “so you can give insulin.” 👀👀👀

One doctor told me the reason why reducing sugar isn’t an option is because most people won’t know how to do it. Okay.

So…today I will tell you how I got started!

👉🏻Host a family meeting. Talk about WHY running normal blood sugars is important. Talk about the hard stuff. What happens with lows and highs. Touch not only on DKA, but also long term complications. It matters.

👉🏻Next, make a family pact. Do it together. 2-4 weeks. I started my kids off with 2, and never looked back. It takes about that long to break the sugar addiction.

👉🏻Then, clean out your food. Get rid of EVERTHING that spikes blood sugar.

👉🏻Last, STOP BUYING foods that spike. Keep it simple and focus on eggs and meat at breakfast. Protein and veggies at dinner. Leftovers for lunch. I made a lot of homemade treats in the beginning. I’ll link my favorite bloggers to follow in the comments for ideas.

It’s OKAY to not go cold Turkey. But…it’s easier if you do.

This is what will happen.
- likely, basal needs AND meal boluses will drop
- blood sugars will become more stable
- your kids behaviors will improve
- less snacks will be needed
- life will become more peaceful

But what do I buy at the store??? Clearly we can’t make everything from scratch all the time. Here is a list to replace high carb pantry foods with smart carb swaps

Remember: it is NOT THE CARB COUNT, it’s the ingredients. And covering protein and fat is a MUST.

Whew! Did you get all the way to the end? Let me know how I can help!

This is a picture from our Christmas party. It’s a tad blurred from cropping and of course the 16yr old isn’t smiling…but sharing to prove that they all still grow without sugar. They all tower me now. 💙💙

What will I do if Will decides one day to change his diet and eat foods that destroy his blood sugars?

The one thing I can say is I will NEVER regret the foundation I am building today, or the habits I am modeling, personally, for all of my kids.

I don’t have a crystal ball. I can’t predict the future. I can only live in the moment and make decisions now, that I feel are right.

We can come up with 100 different excuses on why to continue to feed our children high sugar foods. Or we can rise up and put a stop to the madness. We can say NO to guidelines that don’t make sense or statistics that continue to prove that what we are being told to feed is WRONG.

It’s our job as parents to set them up for beautiful, long and healthy lives.

When questioning the best way to eat….let the graph be your guide.

💙I don’t measure, count or weigh carbs. I offer foods that are gentle on blood sugars and in return I am able to use small amounts of meal insulin, and avoid big mistakes.
💙I cover protein with R insulin. Protein and fat will cause a slow rise over a period of a few hours. The action profile of R matches this perfectly.
💙basal insulin covers the sugar the liver makes. These needs change often. Basal should not cover food. It’s important to get basal needs right, so that it can set the baseline for normal blood sugars. Basal is the BOSS. By removing the noise of high sugar foods I can clearly see when basal needs adjusting.

☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Sunday mornings I usually double or triple a batch of Smart Carb breakfast foods. This morning I made waffles. Will loves the new The Scrummy Sweets Co. syrup! No impact on bs for us. He is also having 3 eggs w/ bacon.

Last year, Grant and I were at one of our favorite local restaurants, and a couple tables over, there was a group of friends. They were clearly all Veterans of varying ages ranging from our age (mid 50’s-60’s), and one gentleman was, I’m guessing in his mid to late 80’s. He had the look of someone who had lived through a lot. The spark in his very blue eyes was still there, but his weathered features told a greater story.

I couldn’t help but notice the quiet sense of duty and pride between them as they laughed and talked, and I wondered at all they must have gone through, seen and done to protect our liberty in my mostly normal lifetime.

The courage and bravery of these men, (and so many like them) to go to places where the norm is a literal battle zone, to leave their families at times without knowing if they’ll get to come back, to lose friends along the way, and to do their best to fight the good fight.

I believe in peace above all, and know that not all wars fought are for virtuous reasons, but still, these are men and women who love our country, and have chosen to take a stand and show up, with no way of truly knowing what that journey will bring. Every day heroes.

I felt the overwhelming urge to do something to express my gratitude, so I ushered over our waitress, and asked her to give us their check. We paid it, and I told her to tell them “Thank you sincerely for your service.” And asked her to do it anonymously. And if they asked who, to tell them, “Your fellow Americans that just want to say thank you in their small way.”

We sat quietly, talking about freedom, and the crazy history of our young nation, and got to see their sincere surprise and smiles when they tried to pay their check a short time later. They had no idea, but their appreciation and sense of pride made my day. It’s a small thing. But today, we celebrate our veterans. The brave heroes who are often overlooked.

So, happy Veterans Day and thank you, sincerely, for all you’ve done to help make freedom possible in our scrappy young nation. Today, we celebrate and honor you. 🇺🇸

Sincerely,
Siouxie & The Scrummy Team
