I know I’m a day late on this, but it took me a little bit to find the words. What a joy it is to be a woman.
To have the balance yet unbalance of fearlessness and femininity.
What a blessing it has been to have been able to be a woman in ministry, and a woman in the barbecue industry. To have been able to lead, teach, and be an example of so many young girls and young women. To have been able to teach so many young girls, and women how to cook, and to be proud of who they are. To have been taken under the wing of so many incredibly amazing women, and taught something new. To have been raised by such beautiful women, and to be a part of a family full of so much love as it continues to grow with more amazing women.
I have so many pictures and memories of friends, family, mentors, students, and other amazing women that have inspired me over the years. You all are so beautiful, and so special to me.
I’ve been inspired to live a life and build a life, I am proud of. Despite my imperfections, my failures, battles, trials, and errors. I am unapologetically Rosie. no plan on stopping.
Here are some of the things I’ve learned along my journey.
In male dominated industry, I have surprisingly faced more rejection from women. Instead of choosing community we choose competition, I think as a natural response to having a limited number of seats at the table. If we were able to support each other, and lift each other up, we would create more seats at the table yet become more powerful together than we are as individuals.
People will try to take your beauty from you. They will try to make you feel small, and take your voice away. Don’t let them.
And when you do, take it as a lesson and learn from it. Do not lead with fear, insecurity, and jealousy. Lead with gratefulness, kindness, and opportunity.
Work on yourself. Call yourself out, and put the hours in to process whatever it is you need to process. Take care of yourself, listen to your body, and remember that the way you speak to yourself matters.
Pursue what sets your soul on fire, and don’t let anyone put that fire out. You can be whatever you want to be, it’s never too late. 🫶
