Farm life comes with both joy and heartbreak, and losing this sweet boy is one of the hardest parts. Today we’re remembering our “Black Kitty.” Ray found him as a tiny kitten in a gas station dumpster in Atlanta on his way home from work. He brought him home, and we gave him the title of resident barn cat. What we didn’t realize those many years ago was just how much of an impact he would have on our lives. He was fearless, fiercely loyal, always proud to leave his “gifts” at the back door, and somehow always managed to find his way onto your shoulders (whether you liked it or not). He brought so much personality, comfort, and life to the farm and it doesn’t feel the same without him here. He’ll be missed more than words can say. Rest easy, Black Kitty. ❤️

We took the old man for a long overdue hike up Yonah Mountain today. At long last. We’ve been wanting to do it for the last 4 years. Beautiful views from the top as always and the weather was pure perfection. Gotta love North Georgia this time of year.

Our shed got a much needed, long overdue facelift. It took us a whole lot longer than we were expecting (and we’re not quite done yet!). We made some structural enhancements to make it more secure, we added stone underneath the concrete slabs to prevent them from collapsing, we pressure washed, we sorted out and neatened up and ended off with a fresh coat of barn red paint & white trim. It’s made the world of difference and looks like a brand new shed now. Check out the before & after pics. What do you think?!

It’s been a busy weekend of shed repairs. It’s been back breaking but the end result will be leaps and bounds better (and much more secure) than it has ever been. The pasture greenery is out in full force now and those spring evenings really are something special. The sheep couldn’t be happier with the abundance of grass to eat and I f you zoom in on the black sheep you’ll her two new babies.

Today was a productive day. All of our sheep got their hooves trimmed (or what I like to call got their annual pedicures!). We also gave them all their yearly vaccinations, wormed those who needed it and tagged ears that hadn’t been tagged. They didn’t love it but they didn’t hate it either…most just sat there taking in their day of pampering haha

Today was 75 degrees (and it wasn’t raining!) so we took full advantage by making it our first official spring clean of the season. Ray cut the grass cut and cleaned out the raised beds while I tackled neatening up the garden beds around the front porch. We made good progress but a lot still to do. Cheers to our favorite season of the year.

Farming hack #1: When you accidentally rip a bag of goat feed in the back of your hatchback, let the wet and stinky buck hop in to vacuum it out. Also doubles as a very unknown and under appreciated air “freshener” we like to call “buck shot”. 🤣 Follow us for more helpful and creative DIY hacks. 😳
