Welcome back to What’s in My Glass Wednesday. The good folks over Jackson Purchase say “every sip tells a story” and this single-barrel selection from Kentucky Bourbon Festival is no exception. This was arguably one of our favorite pours of the weekend and what made it even better were the great people we got to meet in their tent. Let’s get into it…

Jackson Purchase - Single Barrel - Cask Strength
KBF 35th Anniversary
MSRP: $80
Age: 4.5 years
Proof: 118.6

Nose: caramel, orange zest, raspberries and cream
Palate: oily, surprisingly sweet, cherry syrup, rye spice, oak, black tea
Finish: sweetness builds and lingers, musty oak, cinnamon sugar, cherry candy

Final notes: This is a really incredible release at a really incredible price point. Knowing that JP’s Full Proof was such a fantastic release, I had high hopes for this one and those hopes were exceeded. If you get an opportunity to pick this one up, I would definitely recommend it.

One of my favorite things about the Kentucky Bourbon Festival is seeing new distilleries show up to it. Especially ones that you’ve never tried and now get to. This year, I noticed that there were even a couple that weren’t from KY in attendance. And then, for the first year, Nashville Barrel Co showed up under their new venture- Louisville Rickhouse Wh***ey Co. We are such huge NBC fans so not only were we thrilled that they opened a space in Louisville, but they also came to KBF. And, boy, did they bring some incredible wh***ey with them, including a 35 year old hazmat Canadian wh***ey. Zoom in and check out that proof! Ya’ll absolutely crushed your first KBF!

I know that your feeds are chock full of Kentucky Bourbon Festival content, but we had such an amazing time that I have to get a couple of my own in as well. Firstly, if you haven’t yet been, you gotta remedy that because it just keeps getting better and better each year. The people, the bourbon, the food, and the cocktails were just fantastic. These distilleries really brought some incredible bottles for us to drink and buy. We really enjoyed all of the exclusive single barrels that were brought by so many companies.
A few notable favorites:

- Dark Arts Wh***ey House: what a selection ya’ll brought. Just absolutely brought the house down!

- Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co.: your DO Bourbon single barrel AND that root b**r float were so dang good!

- James B. Beam Distilling Co.: the booth (and bowling alleys) along with all of the special bottles for purchasing was pretty amazing. I soooo wish I got to try that KC12 pick you brought!

First night in town for Kentucky Bourbon Festival and we had a great night Lux Row Distillers! They pulled out all of the stops with some amazing wh***ey to drink and some pretty stellar bbq! Some really fantastic releases coming from LuxCo!

If you’re interested in wh***ey that is crafted by a family-run, veteran-owned distillery right in the heart of Kentucky, you’ve got to check this one out. We were lucky enough to have Luminance Wh***ey send us this bottle of their Paradox and it is a beautiful example of what a pot-distilled wh***ey can be. This is a single barrel release with only 208 bottles, coming in at 112.7 proof.

On the nose, there are notes of candied grapes, leather, and sweet corn. The palate sings of rye spice, semi-sweet chocolate, and to***co. And then it finishes strong with orange peel, espresso, and a slight floral note. It’s an incredibly unique wh***ey with a lot of character.

I got on here to do a post and, sadly, the first thing that I see is that Second Sight Spirits has decided not to renew their distilling license. So tonight I’m dedicating a post to them and all of the good times and good wh***ey that I’ve had there. They will be open for 90 more days (until November 30th), so give them a visit before they’re gone! Cheers, friends!

It’s a beautiful Sunday here in NEO… Sunny, 68 degrees, a slight breeze, and Sunday dinner in the oven. Seems like the perfect day to crack the new Blade and Bow Bourbon Wh***ey Solera Reserve 12 year from Stitzel-Weller Distillery. A great pour with a great proof. Stone fruit, vanilla, a little baking spice, and wonderful oak. If you haven’t had the opportunity to try this bottle I highly recommend you give it a shot.

I finallllllllly got to go check out the new RD1 Spirits distillery. And she’s a beaut. I sat at their awesome bar and had the bartender pick me a flight of his favorite stuff. I really enjoyed all of these 4, but the cherry wood and the pecan wood pours were standouts for me. Can’t wait to go back and do a tour. Also, word on the street is that RD1 is bringing something crazy to Kentucky Bourbon Festival so keep an eye out for that! Happy Saturday, friends!

Pretty excited about this Elijah Craig acquisition from Heaven Hill Distillery. I did try this one at the bar before purchasing this one as it is a pricier bottle. I thought it had tremendous flavor for 94 proof and wasn’t over-oaked at all. It had a great richness to it, in fact. I don’t recall hearing a lot of people talk about this one, but I really enjoy it!
