Looking forward to helping with the judging of the inaugural Ohio Beer Awards, down at MadTree Brewing starting tonight! Bookhouse is in the process of wrapping-up, and we hope to have a big announcement regarding the future of 1526 W 25th St soon.

I'm starting full-time at Rocky River Brewing Company on the 26th, to help rebuild and reopen this classic brewpub. The long and short of it is that though Bookhouse's time has passed, the beer industry continues along, and with it the hopeful promise of bespoke, hand-crafted ale and lager, made by humans, for humans. Cheers!

The Ohio Beer Awards competition is a showcase of the outstanding craft beer, cider and mead made right here in the Buckeye State.

ICYMI! Come by tomorrow (Monday) - brewer/owner Vaughn will be behind the bar, and Noble Beast Brewing Co. is buying the first round from 5-7pm. We're open 4-9. Cheers!

Stop by Bookhouse Brewing this Monday 5-7pm so we can buy you a beer! Let’s help kick their kegs and send them off in style before their last day on NYE.
🎉
Bookhouse has always been a favorite for an after-work beer or weekend stop with the family for board games and snacks. Sad to see it go!

Hope ya’ll can join us for one last round! Drop a comment if we’ll see you there!

🚨10 days left! 🚨

We're down to 7 beers, with Jacob Bavarian Hefeweizen the next most likely to kick. We're adding a couple hours here and there to give folks plenty of opportunities to come in one last time. Little Cloud Sandwiches is right next door for a great meal, and The Pierogi Bucket is here on Saturday afternoon/evenings.

Extremely limited merch remaining; online store is off, and as of today we're no longer selling gift cards (to allow time for redemption - we will not honor gift card balances in 2026). To be EXTREMELY CLEAR: our last day of taproom operations is 12/31! Speaking of which - we'll have Brian in for one last round of trivia, at the normal time. Drink specials, and probably some food as well! Cheers, hope to see ya at the taproom soon!

🚨 FRESH FINAL BEER WEDNESDAY 🚨
Irish Goodbye, Oatmeal Stout, 4.5% ABV
Join us, won’t you, in a celebration of all the great times we’ve had these past 7ish years. Our smooth, silky is just the thing to wrap up this particular mission. That of kindness, conversation, getting together with other people in the real world and having a chat.
A tribute to saying goodbye without really doing so, just taking leave and hoping that the you-shaped hole leaves a positive impression. Brewed with a rich sweet base malt, plenty of flaked oats and barley, and a balancing roasty arrangement of dark malts. A light touch of East Kent Goldings hops, Fuller’s ale yeast, and low carbonation. Roasty, yes, but with that unmistakable oat toastiness, and a lightly fruity finish.

Happy Monday, all! As we dig out of the big lake effect snow, I wanted to take a moment of gratitude for everyone's continued patronage and support. I should have a graphic put together soon, but basically we're at normal hours, just closed on the 24th and 25th. We're counting down the days of remaining service - currently the count is 12.

I realized that there wasn't a full explanation for why, when the announcement of our closure was initially made, there wasn't as much certainty regarding our last day, so I want to take a sec to clear that up. At the time I made the announcement, we were likely going to run out of cash in mid-December (as in, about now). In the intervening days and weeks, however, Cleveland has shown up big time. Not only have we not run out of cash, we've been able to pay things off in advance, and be in a strong position to celebrate the end of Bookhouse and the start of 2026, on New Year's Eve. So that is, definitively, still the last day we'll be open to the public. There isn't some grand party or ticketed event we'll be doing on NYE, but we probably will have affordable sparkling wine and some food to go along with our usual range of good beers.

Which means, as a reminder, we're open today! I (brewer/owner Vaughn) will behind the bar, in fact, as we welcome La Herencia, a new pop-up, in tonight. La Herencia is a joint venture from Chef Yurany from Abundance Culinary, and Chef Cam from Amba. They've put together a beautiful menu of empanadas with curtido and guava cheesecake. Join us tonight for a delightful menu to bring liveliness to these snowy cold days. Cheers!

Thank you News 5 Cleveland for coming by to help us write our final chapter. We've been so overwhelmed by the support of our customers, both new and old, as we wrap up operations. I want to stress that though Bookhouse is finishing up, our historic taproom space will live on with a lot of the same character, and continue to serve as a community-centric location that offers something different.

We still have plenty of beer, food pop-ups, a few more rounds of trivia, and fun to be had. Our neighbors at Little Cloud Sandwiches are open for most of our hours, so you can grab a great sandwich to enjoy with your beer.

To clarify one quick thing; I (Vaughn) will be starting as Head Brewer at Rocky River Brewing Company in January, to help rebuild and reopen one of the classic brewpubs of greater Cleveland. I do still have a few folks on staff who are looking for full-time jobs in the new year, so please get in touch if you have promising leads for some of the best bartenders and events managers in the world.

Cheers, and thanks for your support!

Yet another Ohio brewery is biting the dust.

🚨FRESH BEER FRIDAY!🚨 Modern Craft Pils, 5.5% ABV, 55BU
Our final foray into the world of Pilsener sees a reasonable enough conclusion. A base of Czech pilsener malt, fermentation by Mexican lager yeast for a touch of apple fruitiness and a crispy finish, spiced by the freshest-harvest 2025 US Crystal hops. Lemon and pear aromatics with a firm bitterness, a touch of fruity American IPA influence, and a dry, refreshing finish.
This beer is well-lagered and fined, but holds onto that faint scatter of extra protein. It's just as well, as the hop aromatics linger a bit longer, while slight yeastiness has dropped out. Ideally, a pilsner for IPA lovers, or an IPA for pilsner lovers - whichever way you think of it, the idea is to blend the best of both worlds, of our favorite beer styles. Shoutout to .sannerud and B&D Farms in St Paul, OR for hooking us up with some of the best being grown in the US. Consider it an invitation to relax over a mug or two, with good friends and family, in our classic taproom. Ponder the impermanence of life, live in the moment, and enjoy, but don't focus on, the beer. Oh, how could I forget - served on .cz side pull, naturally, for that perfect hladinka pour.
Cheers to classic beers!

Cheers!

🚨 FRESH BEER TUESDAY 🚨
Celestial Spirit, 6.5% ABV, West Coast IPA
Collaboration with Noble Beast Brewing Co. , brewed as part of our “farewell” series. Look, the basic idea here was to pull out all the stops and make the kind of modern IPA that hits the balance between what brewers want to drink (bitter, lower alcohol) and something utilizing all the fruity new proprietary hops and advanced hop products that really push aroma and flavor over the top. Keeping it West Coast is also helpful, as the dry and snappy body makes for maximum refreshment.
By combining this clean and concise dry, crackery malt character, courtesy of Gambrinus Malting ‘s very good IPA malt, with a firm bitterness, the acidity of a classic American ale yeast pairs with balanced carbonation to drive hop flavor across the palate. As well, the highly concentrated hop flavor that comes from Yakima Chief Hops’s Cryo product, delivers tons of classic dank 🌿, pineapple, and grapefruit, to provide a grounding earthy tether. From there, the profound bright New World fruitiness of NZ Hops Ltd Nectaron has free agency to wander the stratosphere of peach, blueberry, strawberry candy fruitiness. At the end of the swallow, that balancing bitterness returns, setting up refreshment for the next sip.
This might just be the best West Coast IPA that has come from our humble little brewhouse, the yield is bad, and we should charge a lot more for it. But life (and the life of this brand) is short, so expect to neck down a trio for a Jackson, if that’s your style. Come and see us, drink it all before 2026 starts, celebrate life and fresh things during this dark and dreary time of year. Cheers!
