Southern Fields Farm was originally founded in January 2001 in Talking Rock, Georgia and was a dream come true for Wes, Marie, and Family. During the economic downshift of 2008 into 2009 a perfect storm began brewing that would ultimately cause the loss of our beloved home, farm, and land in January 2012. We would then move to Jasper, Georgia where in March of 2012 we would try to begin again on t
he 3 acres we currently rent. The following month we would take another hard hit and lose 20+ chickens to a fox. This would be the straw that broke the camel's back....everything stopped. We would keep our turkey (Tom), goat (Houdini) and the couple of surviving chickens but we just didn't have the heart to continue the dream. There would be no farm babies born, no garden to work in and put up for winter, nothing.....the dream we had begun in 2001 was put on the shelf to gather dust while it quietly waited. In March 2013 I felt that I was being impressed by the Lord to "Possess the Land" (Deuteronomy 1:8 Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land). After much reflection, I felt Him saying in my spirit, "I didn't give you 3 acres for you to sit and look at it, Go and Possess the Land that I have given you". It would be EXACTLY one year to the day that I began to dream 'farm dreams' once again. The dream of Southern Fields Farm was taken from the shelf, dusted off, and is now slowly coming back to life. My excitement and thankfulness for this second chance is something that simply can not be put into mere words. To again watch baby chicks grow, bottle feed a baby buckling, babysit baby goslings as they forage for tender plants and the occasional bug....feel the soft fur of sweet bunnies, listen to the hum of the tractor as my husband tills the land getting ready for planting..... BUT most of all to know that God has a plan and a purpose for this family, this home, this land, and these precious babies that he has entrusted into our care. Southern Fields Farm is a partnership between us and our Heavenly Father. It is our deepest desire that He receive all the praise, honor, and glory for ALL that we do for He alone is worthy. We ask that you pray for us and the farm as we work to reframe and rebuild. It will take time but we are excited to begin anew on this journey and looking forward to what the future holds.
