We are looking forward to the 10th Annual Chicken Festival this weekend Friday the 23rd and Saturday the 24th. We will be setup starting at lunch on Friday at 11:00. Below is the menu for the weekend:

I’m doing a small cook this weekend and I have room for a few more things. I am cooking chicken wings and baby back ribs. They will be ready at 12:00 noon on Saturday and pickup is at my house on Meadow Lane.

My post this morning stated that I had plenty of BBQ for lunch.... little did I know just how many customers would show up! I cooked more than I normally do but sold out much faster than I normally do! A huge thank you to everyone that bought and the ones that didn’t make it in time, I’ll cook more next time! The goal is to go home empty handed but I do not like to turn customers away at all. Keep an eye out for when we will be setup again!

The Story Behind Big Daddy’s BBQ

At the ripe age of twelve years old, Brett Mitchell developed a love for cooking. His “GDaddy” instilled in him much more than life lessons; he gave him access to hands on training in the kitchen and on the grill, and access to the family recipe box.

Not only did Brett learn his way around the kitchen at a young age, he was given the nickname “Big Daddy” many years ago. This nickname stemmed from an eventful morning in the deer stand resulting in (what he thought) was the harvest of “Big Daddy”. Little did he know, his trophy was somewhat smaller than he anticipated and would become a very good story to tell years later.

As the hobby is slowly evolving into a small business, Brett is beginning to attend more festivals, enter in cooking competitions and accepting small, weekend catering opportunities. Many holiday weekends have been spent cooking ribs and Boston butts for local community members. In addition, Brett has had the opportunity to cook monthly for a Community Outreach Relational Engagement (CORE) program in Mayfield, KY for Catalyst Church.
