When transplanting tomatoes, make sure you get a good portion of the stem in the ground. This will create a strong root system. Removing a few of the lower leaves and planting the stem sideways will help grow a strong, healthy plant.

Another week of good eating! Not pictured are the tuna packets and rice cakes I usually eat for lunch at work because it’s easy, or the quick granola bar and bag of popcorn I grab before Wednesday night Bible study because there’s no time for supper before then. But we do the best we can when we can so most meals are pretty good around here, we are blessed!

Got a lot done this Sunday afternoon in the garden. Got mater trellising up, bean trellising up, and planted okra, watermelon, corn, tomatoes and beans.
I’m excited to try a different method this year with my garden rather than conventional methods I grew up seeing. What may work for one gardener may not work for another and that’s okay. Every year is a learning process. I like to grow for our family to have the best food, but I also like to grow in a way that is as close to as God intended things to grow- that means the less intervention on my behalf the better! (I also think that’s just simpler on me, yay!) I love a beautiful garden that does the work for me instead of me tampering with different garden do-dads and do-hickies. Maybe one day I’ll get into landscaping cloth, grow seeds inside with grow lamps and trays, or use frost covers, but for the time being I’m planting this way and hope nature works with me as I try to work with it!

Since I had requests to make some, I have jars of Tallow Cream: $12 for 4oz. Let me know if you’d like a jar and I’ll put you on the list!

🔸I apply to my face daily and makes my skin soft and looking fresh.
🔸I use this on my baby’s head when it’s getting a little dry and after I bathe her it’s like a new scalp! No more dryness.
🔸What I’m most surprised by now is that I’ve been rubbing it over a pretty bad scar that’s been very tender but the tenderness is almost zero! Something in it has helped with healing the tissue scaring and I wish I knew it could do that sooner!
🔸This jar will last you half a year, no joke. It’s a great value!
💲One of our goals is to keep our prices affordable for our community. We want folks to be able to have good things without stressing over the cost.
(Ingredients: 100% grass fed tallow, jojoba oil, coconut oil, frankincense oil, & witch hazel)

We had some cold temps this week with frost in the mornings but should be good to get all my seeds in the ground now. We could have tackled a few more projects but chose to spend that time with family instead. All this work don’t amount to nothing if we lose sight of what’s really important: for us, that’s time with God and time with family. Hope y’all had a blessed week!

Do you plant cover crops in your garden? We are trying Buckwheat and White Clover in ours this summer.
Cover crops help with w**d control, moisture retention, and soil health.

We are opting for better breeds to raise at Turkey Feather Farm. They may grow slower and be more work because we have to keep them a little longer, but they’ll taste better, live better, and be better quality.

A wee glimpse at the best bites we had this week! I am very much an “ingredient household”. I like making our meals from scratch because I like knowing what we eat. There’s just too much nonsense in some of the store-bought stuff! Sure, there’s times we cut corners like when I ate pizza at a lunch meeting this week. But most days, most meals, we make ourselves because it’s important to us to eat well. I often make big batches so we have leftovers for the next day or two. I also meal prep like the overnight oats and that helps cutting down time in the kitchen. Cooking from scratch is worth the effort because our health and wellbeing being is worth it.
