My name is Charles R. English, and I am honored to announce my Republican candidacy for the position of Marlboro County Sheriff. With over 27 years of dedicated service to law enforcement in Marlboro County, I bring a wealth of experience, integrity, and commitment to this esteemed role. I was born, raised, and attended school in Marlboro County. I chose to remain in Marlboro County and build my life here. I currently reside in Clio, S.C. with my wife, Monnie. We attend Trinity Clio Methodist Church.
My law enforcement career began in 1981 with the City of Bennettsville. I was hired as a patrolman earning the rank of Sergeant within a few years. From this position, I was promoted to Investigator earning the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant. From Investigations, I was promoted to Administrative and Operations Captain. In 1996, I left the City of Bennettsville to further my career as Chief Deputy of the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office. I was the Chief Deputy for 8 years before retiring. Throughout my career, I have upheld the values of integrity, accountability, transparency, and justice.
My core values are:
● Integrity- I vow to uphold the highest standards and will lead by example. Integrity is the cornerstone of public trust and I am committed to developing and maintaining the integrity of the Sheriff's Office at all times.
● Accountability- I will hold myself and staff accountable for our actions and our decisions. Being transparent and accountable is essential in building and maintaining trust with the citizens we serve.
● Transparency-I will put the needs of our community first. As public servants, it is our duty to protect and serve with compassion, respect, and professionalism. I am dedicated to listening to the concerns of the citizens of Marlboro County and working to address them. You will all receive the same service, regardless of who you are. If you are the victim of a crime, I will be transparent with you regarding the status of your cases and follow up will be what is expected.
● Justice-I will ensure fair and impartial treatment for all, regardless of background or circumstance.
I believe in the principles of justice and equality and will work tirelessly to promote justice that is fair, humane, and effective. These values will guide my approach to law enforcement and will continue to shape my leadership as Sheriff. With your support, I am committed to upholding these values and serving the residents of our county. I will be on the Republican ballot on June 11, 2024 with no opposition and will face the winner of the Democratic primary on November 5, 2024. Your support is greatly appreciated!
