Old World vs New World Riesling - what's the difference?

A few things - because of the soil compositions in Germany, Old World has a bit more complexity and spice. Grapes are grown on steeper slopes, have some residual sugar, and wines have a lower ABV.

New World Riesling, like from New York's Finger Lakes, has a bit more golden apple stone fruit characteristic, tons of acid, and a higher ABV.

What do the terms on a German wine label mean?

Chances are, you've seen unfamiliar words like Trocken and Spätlese, - which can seem confusing. But all you need to know about German Prädikat categories is this: dry style is Trocken, while off-dry (or a bit more sweet) is Feinherb. It all depends on your preferred style.
