Welcome to Jim's Journal - the June 2026 Edition! Jim Rickards is checking the progress in the newly grafted Cab Franc vineyard. Then next, Jim is out in his experimental vineyard where we are looking at vines that were grafted over to Negro Amaro last year. Negro Amaro is an Italian wine grape variety, known for its beautiful color and bold, black fruit flavors and Jim wanted to give it a try. So, today's video is a viticulture tutorial on how to train young grapevines into the direction you want them to go. They are growing well and now the new canes need to be trained to bilateral cordons. Jim demonstrates how this is done. Whether you are getting started with your own grapevines, appreciate how good wine grapes are grown or just really like wine, this is a fascinating process. Please join us!
