On Wednesday, we had a group of Healdsburg Agriculture students along with their instructor here at J. Rickards Winery to process their grape harvest. Joined by our Winemaker, Blaine Brazil, Jim Rickards led the way and explained how our equipment works and why we do it our way. What a great hands-on experience! Thank you to everyone involved in this imporant harvest work. We wish every success to this future generation of grape growers and wine makers!

Here’s a fun look at some of the Barn Owls at J. Rickards Winery. These majestic wild birds perform an important function in our vineyards, keeping the rodents in check plus they are so interesting to watch and have around. Jim Rickards talks about what Casey O’Connell from Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue is doing with our annual Barn Owl Box check-up and census. Here, you’ll briefly see two pairs of barn owls in different boxes. One male bailed out after being viewed by Casey’s camera and that flight is really something to see! Please join us!

Today’s video is all about the picking and processing of Petite Sirah from our Brown Barn Block! This is a detailed look at how a day during harvest season looks from the vineyard to the crush pad. It is literally from grapes still on the vine to berries starting to ferment in the tank!

We create videos like this for our friends, especially for those of you who can’t be here in person and want to soak up an up-close visual harvest and crush experience. These are scenes from a full day’s work, distilled down to the time it may take to enjoy a glass of our wine. We appreciate you visiting us, whether it is here at the winery or from your homes. And we also thank and appreciate the excellence, professionalism, and all of the hard work that goes into making our wine! Cheers to the harvest and to our vineyard, cellar, and winemaking teams!

Our hard-working Vineyard Team, led by Vineyard Foreman, Jorge Alcazar, harvested the Petite Sirah this morning. Jorge, Aguida, Odelia, Yolanda, Alma, Homero, and Rocindo were all out early this morning picking these beautiful grapes. This Petite Sirah from our Brown Barn Block is so sweet, rich, and flavorful!
