We believe that cattle production has to change if beef going to continue to be viewed as a viable protein source for the world’s population. In some states environmental regulations have already limited cattle’s access to open water, a trend that will likely continue. Land is a finite resource and ground that has potential to be used for residential development or crop production will continue be
shunted toward the applications of most economic valuable. Unfortunately the cowherd has not adapted fast enough to survive on less land. From an annual genetic advancement perspective, beef cannot keep pace with crops or most other food animal species, which translates into lower productivity and profitability, couple that with high land prices and you have a receipt for fewer and fewer cow calf pairs roaming the hills. Finally the world’s population is projected to double by 2050. The writing on the wall states that there will be a demand for protein derived from red meat. No longer can cow calf production be the largest per unit consumer of land and yield the smallest production output if we hope to feed that population. We knew that to enter the cow calf industry we had to do things differently, utilize less to produce more. Our system reduces the amount of land required to produce our beef. We can provide our cows and calves shelter from wind, rain, and snow. Our cattle eat a consistent balanced diet with ample protein, energy, vitamins and trace minerals. We capture the cattle’s manure and apply it back to fields to provide nutrients for the crop. With no fences to check, a guaranteed water supply, shade, lighting, and easy accessibility this allows us the time and ability to integrate reproductive technologies to ensure we are growing the most genetically elite crop of calves possible. Our calves are our product and we know the quality runs deep. For calves there is no bunk acclimation, no learning what an automatic watering system is, and there is no learning to eat. Our calves have access to all of these things from the moment they are born and learn do it all by their mother’s side. We find it remarkable how life comes in pairs - a cow and calf, brother and sister, husband and wife it seems life is just easier when you have someone by your side and Upah Cattle Company is all possible because of the people by our side, our family and friends. Our process might be nontraditional, but the goals are simple. We strive to sell the most pounds of beef possible through a process that embodies a tradition of family and togetherness, one that cattle production has always fostered. We are family owned and operated and care for our children, cattle, and environment with the utmost attention because without one we will not have any of the others. We at Upah Cattle Company invite you to visit us any time of year. Sincerely,
Nathan, Lindsey, Wyatt, and Violet
