It may seem like a small thing, but clean, fresh water is so important to keeping our sheep healthy and hydrated—especially during these hot summer days! ☀️

A little scrub brush, soap, and elbow grease goes a long way! 🧼💦🐑

🐑⭐ Southdown Sunday: Star ⭐🐑

Meet Star, twin sister to Sun and daughter of Sky and Brick Howse! 💕 Star is our sweet, laid-back girl who is always ready for a good nap—especially after a busy show! 😴🐑

At the 2026 Tama County Fair, Star was named Champion Purebred Ewe Lamb! 🏆⭐ She then headed to the Iowa State Fair and held her own in a competitive class.

This sweet girl has definitely been shining bright! 💙🐑

🧼🐑 The Fair Isn't Over Until Everything Is Clean!

As soon as we got home, Haley got to work disinfecting EVERYTHING—brushes, halters, coats, buckets, stand, signs, hoses… you name it, it got cleaned! 🧽😂

Biosecurity is such an important part of raising livestock. No one ever intends to bring something home from a show, but there is always a chance. The Iowa State Fair does a great job cleaning and disinfecting between sheep rotations, but we want to do our part to make sure we aren't bringing anything home to our flock.

Haley purposely took Friday after we returned, off so we could get this often-forgotten step done right away. Prevention is always better than treatment! 💙🐑

Clean equipment = happy, healthy sheep! 🐑❤️

🐑❤️ Iowa State Fair 2026 — What a Week! ❤️🐑

As we look back through all these pictures, our hearts are just FULL. 🥹

And let me tell you… the sheep were TIRED on Thursday! 😂 They spent the day doing what sheep do best: eating, chewing their cud, and sleeping. 💤🐑 Sky and Dory were so worn out that even with their halters on, they were NOT interested in getting up and walking to the trailer. 😂 Needless to say, we were ready for a nap too!

We had several great placings in our classes, but honestly, that's not what matters most to us. We love the conversations with people who stop by, ask questions, and want to learn about sheep and agriculture. We love letting kiddos pet a sheep (maybe not right after I clip the head 😂), and seeing their faces light up makes my heart so happy.

We love sharing our passion for sheep, agriculture, and Iowa farming with everyone who walks through the barn. We also love the friendships and connections we've made with breeders across Iowa and the country—working together to expand genetics, share ideas, and build genuine friendships. ❤️

We missed catching up with a few friends this year because schedules just didn't line up, but we're thankful those friendships continue beyond the fair.

And watching Noah help Haley show this year was probably one of our favorite parts. 🥹 Seeing Haley pass along her passion and love for showing sheep to the kids means absolutely everything to her. More cute videos of those two coming soon! 💙

🐑🪣 If you know, you know… the bucket ALWAYS wins! 😂

Our fall lambers following the bucket across the farm like it's the most important meeting of the day. 😆

We LOVE a bucket-trained ewe! It makes moving the girls around the farm so much easier. 🐑💨

Just shake the bucket(even it's just rocks in it) and ewe better believe they're coming!😉

🐑💗 Southdown Sunday: GoGo! 💗🐑

Meet GoGo, daughter of Gaga and sired by Brick Howse! GoGo is a happy-go-lucky girl… unless she's not with her buddy! 😂

Noah was absolutely ecstatic to help show GoGo at the Iowa State Fair, where she placed 5th in her class! We couldn't be more proud of this pair! 🥰

And that wool on her face and legs? It's ALL GoGo! 😉 No fancy hair routine—just good genetics and a little cleanup before the show ring!

Our fluffy girl is pretty special! 💕🐑

✂️🐑 From “fluffy” to “fabulous!” 😂

Before heading to the Iowa State Fair, everyone got a quick head trim! Keeping the wool around their faces cleaned up helps them look their best and prevents wool blindness.

And yes… Haley still hates clipping heads. 😂 She always has, and probably always will! But she's getting a little more comfortable with it every time.

These heads were washed and given one last touch-up before hitting the show ring—but by then, we were WAY too busy to take pictures! 📸😅

💙🐑 From the bottom of our hearts… THANK YOU! 🐑💙

What a week of making memories! We truly could not do this without our village. To everyone who watched the boys, brought the crew down, helped with those last-minute touches, showed alongside us, supported us at the fair and online, did chores back home, watched our dog, or simply cheered us on — THANK YOU! ❤️

Noah was SO excited this year to help show Sky and GoGo, and watching his little face light up made this mama heart absolutely BURST with smiles. 🥹 He had the best time!

And getting to have Sawyer down at the fair with us too made it even more special. ❤️ Two boys, a barn full of sheep, and a whole lot of memories we’ll cherish forever.

We are so grateful for every person who helped make this week possible. It truly takes a village, and we are lucky to have the BEST one! 🐑❤️

Here’s to the memories, the late nights, the early mornings, the sheep, and the people who make it all worth it! 🥰

We will make another post with more results once we get the girls and gentleman home and we get a few hours of sleep!
