Like the rest of the world, this week we were saddened by the news of Dolly Parton's passing. Our kids each are Imagination Library graduates and we still cherish and reread the books we received because of Dolly. What has been the most uplifting to see is just how many people across so many places and backgrounds all loved Dolly Parton. It gives me hope that her spirit of giving and bright light will continue to sparkle within all who were touched by it, and we can all be a little like Dolly.

We would love to only have grass fed goats...the problem is goats don't care about fences, gates and boundaries (physical and emotional). Now, our doe (female) goat is actually very well behaved and does respect all boundaries and dietary restrictions...which led us to the poor thinking that more goats was a good idea. These three on the other hand will always find a way to escape and have been found chewing all sorts of stereotypical nonedible materials (some of which are the fencing meant to keep them in). Worse yet, their bad boy behavior has been alluring to the hens and the ewes so they are starting to challenge all boundaries as well.

Farm babies, farm work and fun whenever we can squeeze it in...this summer has flown so far!

The Greencastle Farmers Market has special hours today! It is open now but it will run through 2pm to participate with the Aquatic Center Pool Pawty- special swim hours for your four-legged family member!
So if we have some passing rain, no worries- you have extra shopping time!

Andy calling a meeting to discuss the importance of staying in your own pasture, not leaving your eggs all over the barn yard and free range doesn't mean rent free.

🎶 Andy would walk 500 miles and he would walk 500 more just to be the man who walked 1,000 miles to put the cattle out on fresh pasture.
The field in this video is not only providing food for our grass fed cattle herd, it's also where we grow different nonGMO grains that feed our poultry and hogs. We can plant a variety of plants called cover crops that are nutritious for the cattle and the soil, then follow the cattle with the planter to put the grain crop in for harvesting later in the year. The field is divided into 10 acre strips so there are a multitude of plant rotations happening. Andy plans out where the cattle can be grazed and we use temporary electric fence to give them the sections we want grazed and separate them from what cannot be grazed. Some of the tasks for moving the fence allow Andy to use the 4-wheeler, but he is on foot for over half of the job.

It has been a busy last couple of weeks here for us...wheat harvest, baling hay and straw, processing our second batch of pastured nonGMO chickens, our kiddos participating in the Putnam County Fair, and the arrival of the 2026 turkey flock!
The Greencastle Farmers Market is now open and runs til noon! It's perfect weather to shop!
