Last Chance to buy hay/bedding before Snowmageddon hits this weekend! We’re open today until 2. Falling to plan is planning to fail!
Manor Hill Farms here has some great advice to prepare for the harsh weather👍
Now that we are drawing closer to what could be our “winter storm of the decade,” it’s time for every good farmer to make a checklist to be ready:
-a weeks worth of groceries on hand (for humans and critters)
-all appropriate medicines on hand (for humans and critters
-you personally checked levels in all heating oil tanks, diesel fuel tanks, equipment fuel tanks (and treated them with anti-gel stuff) AND YOU LET YOUR FUEL COMPANY KNOW YOUR LEVELS SO THEY CAN TOP YOU OFF!!!
-your snow removal equipment is hooked up and serviced/test run
-your generator has been test run and is sitting somewhere handy
-your flashlights are charged and spare batteries handy
-your portable radio is charged (for weather/news during power outages)
-you have warm clothes and blankets stashed in your 4x4 and a shovel, bags of salt/sand, some boxes of snacks and drinks that won’t freeze
-you and your neighbors set up an arrangement to call each other every hour or so to check in
-you have all your feed inventory on hand for a full week
-you plan to make sure your heater vents to the outside are clear from drifts
-smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms have new batts
-plenty of firewood is stacked on your porch (use it as a snow drift blocker!)
-critters are brought inside
-your farm workers either spend the night with you or else you make sure they stay home safe and you do all the work…your farm isn’t worth them losing their life trying to get to it because neither of you could plan ahead
-fire extinguishers are handy everywhere (how’s the fd gonna get to you if everyone is snowed in)
-you have a steady supply of movies/books/reading material to keep sane
-your phones are kept charged as much as possible
-chain saw gear is ready to go
-you have extra jugs of water in your fridge/basement if needed
-you have plenty of food items you can eat if the power is out
-dress appropriately in layers when venturing outdoors to check barns and clear snow. Have enough sense to know when to go back inside to warm up.
-don’t be stupid and waste our EMS/local resources because your idiocy created an emergency!!!🚨
****this whole county should look like a ghost town by 6pm Saturday because everyone planned ahead and got where they were intending to get before the storm starts. It’s gonna be a 💩 show and your best way to enjoy it is to not need to go outside until it’s over. Stay off the roads and let us have time and space to get them open. See ya all Tuesday (that’s about the time I think we will have all the roads open)
Best of luck y’all and God Bless 😎
