Memorial Day weekend and burgers just go together. 🍔

Whether you're firing up the grill for a backyard get-together or staying inside because it's snowing 🙃, I rounded up a few of my favorite wild game burger recipes for the occasion. All of them are just as good on the grill as they are cooked in a cast iron pan!

- Spicy Teriyaki Elk Burgers
- Grilled Elk Burger Sliders with Bacon
- Mushroom Swiss Venison Burgers
- Juicy Grilled Elk Burgers
- Venison Burger Sliders

If elk shanks have been hanging out in your freezer because they feel a little intimidating, this recipe is for you.

After a long braise, the meat turns fall-apart tender and soaks up all the rich soy, garlic, ginger, and broth flavors in the pot. The sauce gets silky and savory, and your whole house smells amazing while it cooks.

I love making this in a heavy Dutch oven and serving it over rice or noodles with plenty of extra sauce spooned on top.

If those “save for later” shanks are starting to inch toward freezer-burn territory, this is your sign to use them!

Garden season is here, and if you grow herbs, you know what's coming.

A little parsley turns into a lot of parsley.
Mint starts creeping.
Dill pops up everywhere.

Suddenly, you've got more fresh herbs than you know what to do with. Not a bad problem to have!

Fresh herbs are one of the easiest ways to make a meal feel brighter, lighter, and more put-together. They can carry a dish, cut richness, or add that final fresh bite that makes everything pop.

Here are a few ways to use them when your garden starts overflowing:

Let them lead:
• Venison steak frites with chimichurri
• Antelope kofta with mint yogurt
• Smoked fish crostini + herb salad
• Roasted beet salad loaded with herbs

Mix them in:
• Smoked trout dip with lemon + dill
• Beer-battered rockfish tacos with cilantro-lime slaw

Add depth:
• Roasted delicata squash with herbs

When in doubt: use more herbs than you think you need. Chop them up, scatter them over everything, and let them do their thing!

Mother's Day brunch at home? Here are a few simple menu ideas to make it feel special without overcomplicating it
Something bite-sized:
- Maple-Glazed Venison Breakfast Sausage Bites
- Venison Crostini with Whipped Goat Cheese & Pickled Shallots
Something cozy (and make-ahead!):
- Rustic Sourdough French Toast Casserole
- Overnight Sausage Breakfast Strata with Antelope
Something classic:
- Fluffy Buttermilk Biscuits
- Rosemary Roasted Potatoes
And a couple extras if you want to round it out:
- Smoked Trout Dip with Lemon + Dill
- Spicy Pickled Asparagus
If you're hosting, my biggest tip is to keep it simple. 2-3 dishes is plenty!
Something sweet. Something savory.
At least one make-ahead.
And one thing that feels just a little special.

Taco night starts with the seasoning, and homemade makes all the difference!

Once you make your own, it's hard to go back. It's just a simple mix of spices you probably already have, but without the extra salt and fillers you'll find in store-bought packets. Plus, you can adjust it exactly how you like.

Keep a jar in your pantry, and you've got instant flavor ready to go. 🫙

Here are a few of my favorite ways to use it:
- classic ground venison tacos (of course)
- enchiladas
- quesadillas
- stuffed peppers
- Spanish rice..and more!

Once you have a homemade blend on hand, you'll end up using it in all kinds of meals.

Cinco de Mayo + Taco Tuesday = your sign to make tacos 🌮

Starting with one of my favorites 👇

Sandhill Crane Leg Tacos
A little different, but so good, especially with a bright salsa verde. (works with other bird legs too!)

If you're planning your menu, here are a few more ideas:

Venison Shank Carnitas
Slow-braised, then crisped to perfection. This is what I’m making this year (and it's the May cooking challenge recipe)

Skillet Venison Enchiladas
All the flavor, way easier (one pan 🙌)

Venison Shank Tacos with Apple Slaw
Another great way to use shanks if you want something a little lighter than carnitas

Elk Steak Fajitas
Simple, bold, and perfect if you want to grill

Whether you're going all out or just making tacos on a weeknight, you really can’t go wrong.

New month = new cooking challenge!

This month we're featuring a recipe that's perfect for clearing out those overlooked cuts in the freezer: Venison Shank Carnitas.

Tough, collagen-rich shanks (or any bone-in wild game cut) slowly braised until fall-apart tender then finished in a hot skillet for that perfect carnitas crisp.

It's the kind of recipe that feels like you put in way more effort than you actually did. Perfect for tacos, burrito bowls, nachos, and more!

Here's how to enter the Cooking Challenge:

If there's one condiment I always have in my fridge, it's pickled red onions. 🧅

They're quick, easy, and make everything better.

That tangy crunch cuts through rich dishes and adds just the right amount of brightness to every bite.

Once you've got a jar, here are a few ways to use them 👇

• nachos
• ramen
• tacos
• grain bowls
• anything Mediterranean

They take minutes to make and keep for weeks, so you can throw them on just about anything.

And if you want to switch things up, try pickled shallots. Same idea, just a little different flavor and just as versatile.
If you haven't tried them yet, this is your sign.

You'll end up putting them on way more than you expect!

Winter came back to Wyoming… so comfort food is still on the menu. ❄️
Venison meatballs with marsala sauce = cozy, flavorful, and just a little different from your usual meatball situation.
Serve them over:
– mashed potatoes

– crusty bread (for all that sauce 👌)
And if you already have venison meatballs prepped in the freezer, this comes together even faster.
If you make it, I'd love to hear what you think!
