How Waymaker Farms was born...

Just a few months after we purchased our dream property and home, we faced one of the biggest challenges of our lives. In August of 2018, our water well which had produced more than enough water for more than thirty years went dry. It doesn’t sound like a life-changing challenge, but once you are without an essential element for survival....it changes everything. We learned over the next year and through much heartache and stress how much we take something so basic...water...for granted. After we were able to get back a fraction of what we had before (a fraction that we are very grateful for), we vowed to be good stewards of the water. We changed every aspect of our day-to-day lives in respect of water. We no longer water lawns, choosing instead to turn our lawns into lavender fields which require little to no water. We only plant and transplant native plants for landscaping. We haul water for our goats and chickens by hand and hand water our growing plants so as to not waste any. Every drop is precious.

Throughout all of this trying and difficult times, the only thing keeping us going and moving forward was our faith. Without the support of our family and our faith and our church, we would not have made it. One morning we arrived and sat in our usual spots at church, ready to hear the word and sing our songs of praise. It was a particularly difficult morning and my emotions were high, struggling to maintain my composure under the stress of the water situation. The first worship song’s words began to wash over me...

“Even when I don’t see it, you’re working.

Even when I don’t feel it, you’re working.
