The best horsemen are still students.
I don’t care how many horses you’ve trained.
I don’t care how many shows you’ve won.
I don’t care how long you’ve been doing this.
If you think you’ve got horses figured out, you’ve probably stopped learning.
Every horse has something to teach you.
Every rider you work with can show you something.
Every mistake can point out a hole in your program.
And sometimes the thing that teaches you the most is the horse that doesn’t make things easy.
I’ve been doing this a long time, and I still have things I’m trying to understand.
Still things I’m trying to improve.
Still days when a horse shows me something and I think, “Well, I hadn’t thought about it that way before.”
That’s not a failure to know enough.
That’s being a horseman.
Because the best horsemen never stop being students. Thanks Royce Goodman for always helping me get better
