We are enduring record heat, but we carry on. We will likely reach 90 degrees F again today. Over time - since weather has been recorded - we have averaged 78 degrees F for the high at time of year. Not the case currently. Even so, we are doing the work of autumn. Yesterday we worked the cabbage and collard raised beds. We irrigated to keep the winter rye moist. Can you see the lines of new growth? The seeder inserts seeds in even rows. In time, as the grass grows, the lines will fill in, but for now you can see the striation of tiny grass shoots.
Reggie, who always does what Reggie wants to do, did not want to go up last night. He marches to his own internal drummer. He ran circles around us just out of arms reach. He used the the cattle scratching post to sharpen his claws, then he finally showed up at the door to the silo expecting to be allowed to enter. He did indeed get access. The wooden cat looked on with admiration.
While it is true that you have to live in the world that you have. It is equally true that you have choices about how you think and how you will act. Optimism is a good option. Step out on faith. Do the work. Be ready for the good that you want. Happy Wednesday, y’all!
