We are off and running into Friday. We were late putting the fowl up last night because blueberry picking is in high gear right now. Our freezer is getting nice and full. We are also harvesting zucchini and are enjoying the flower patch. The hens are helping us with sunflower watch. They are in rotation circulating in and around the colorful plants. We have yet to see our first sunflower bloom, but the plants are tall and healthy. Yellow sunshine on a stick will appear. We see the areas where sunny blooms are forthcoming, but — for now — we wait. . . Patience is a virtue we are told, so I guess we will become a little more virtuous whether we like it or not. Happy free range Friday, folks!!

Well, crack an egg and celebrate our working girls. It is national egg day! We are all in for the party. Eggs are a great source of protein, and our free range fowl are happy campers doing their part to fuel folks. The colorful eggs that they provide are actually of part Mother Nature’s plan to allow egg safety. Egg color in the wild is camouflage. It allows eggs to blend in with the materials used for nest making in the environment in which they are laid. Make nests of green grass? Green eggs. Nests of brown straw? Brown eggs. Get it? Happy Wednesday, y’all!

Ask and ye shall receive. We continue to get rain. We had showers yesterday afternoon and this morning. The farm folks will not have to water today. That is for sure. Sending a big thank you to Mother Nature for the water. Happy Tuesday, y’all!!
