GMD 4

GMD 4 The purpose of the district is the proper conservation and management of the groundwater resources of the Ogallala in Northwest Kansas.

We were formed on March 1, 1976 and encompass all or parts of Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, Graham, Wallace, Logan and Gove Counties. In these counties we cover 3.11 Million acres. We have a governing body of locally elected 11 member board in charge of all district activity. Each board member represents all land owners and water users within the county position they hold. Each are elected to a three year term.

The Northwest Kansas Groundwater Management District No. 4, based in Colby, Kansas, is accepting applications to fill an open position on its Board of Directors (Position #5), representing Thomas County.

Eligible applicants must reside within the district boundaries and own at least 40 contiguous acres of land in Thomas County.

Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest no later than May 25, 2026, to:

The letter must include the applicant’s home address and the legal description of the land owned in Thomas County.

The Board is scheduled to consider applicants at its meeting on June 3, 2026. Applicants are encouraged to attend. If the meeting is postponed, notice will be provided via email and posted on the district’s website at
