My favorite tree is a huge white oak that is in front of our home. She’s in all the old photos we have of the house, so she’s been around Galvin Hill Road for a while now. More and more branches are dying every year, so last fall we collected several of her acorns. A handful of them sprouted, and two grew leaves. On Sunday we planted one of the saplings, and a honeybee stopped by to check out the first bucket of water. Here’s hoping this tree will grow as tall and powerful as her mom.

After attending the Spring Maintenance workshop this week, we were able to inspect our colonies and assess their strength. We reversed two (switched the boxes to move the bees down so they don't swarm), and we took two frames of brood and bees from a strong colony and moved it to the weakest. Three colonies are going strong, and we have a small amount of hope for the fourth. We so appreciate the resources and support from the VBA and !

I love working for CCV, and I’m looking forward to sharing our hobbies and talents at the first Community Craft Fair this Saturday! The Galvin House Apiary will have honey, hot honey, and candles. You’ll also be able to place an order for gift/favor sized jars of honey. I hope to see you there!

The August 2025 honey harvest is in the books! The escape boards and leaf blower did a great job of clearing bees from the supers. Our new bees (2 from packages and two from nucs) gave us 125 pounds of honey in their first year.
