Shearing is in full swing here at Weir Tree Farms! (No pun intended) 🌲

Every tree is hand-sheared to achieve the classic Christmas tree shape, improve branch density, and control height. It may only be July, but the crew is already hard at work preparing for the holiday season!

Our crew at Weir Tree Farms has been working on a side project for the past few days! Many of our followers and folks who ride snowmobiles or four-wheelers in the North Country know about the Grand View Snack Shack and our adjoining camp. Jay and the crew have been landscaping, improving the driveway area, and preparing the buildings to be reroofed!

This past weekend was a success! The 2026 New Hampshire/Vermont Christmas Tree Association summer meeting featured a day of discussion, showcasing ideas, and learning about new techniques and research in the Christmas tree industry.

Attendees heard from Christie Weir on the history of Weir Tree Farms. Bob White talked about the Real Christmas Tree Board’s research programs. He included a talk about how growers can access information about research and improve their production practices and better combat industry challenges. 

Jay Weir spoke on Christmas tree seedling production, transplant production and discussed the diversity and history of our seed orchard. He also spoke about the Korean x Balsam tree that we have been experimenting with growing.

Tomorrow, Saturday, June 27, Weir Tree Farms is proud to host the 2026 New Hampshire–Vermont Christmas Tree Association Annual Summer Meeting.

This year, attendees will hear from UNH Extension Field Specialist Rachel Maccini, Robert "Bob" White (owner of White's Tree Farm), and Jay and Christie Weir, who will discuss a wide range of topics, from pesticide storage and safety to Christmas tree shearing techniques.

Stay tuned throughout the day tomorrow for photos, videos, and updates from the meeting!

On Monday, June 15th, the farm lost a very important member of the family in the passing of our well known farm dog, Rex. At the time of his passing Rex was 16 years and 3 months old and had been three legged for about 15.5 of those years. He lived a long and eventful life. He came to us as a three month old puppy who had been abandoned at a state park. When he arrived at our home, his two human brothers, Jackson and Cooper, were three years and three months old respectively – they are now 19 years and 16 years old. When he was 9 months old he was hit by a car in front of the farm house and this accident resulted in the loss of his back leg. We worried about how he would adjust to this loss, but it never once slowed him down and he even climbed mountains for many years after (unfortunately it did not break him of his habit of chasing cars!). He lived a very free life and roamed hundreds of acres every day and he was a staple on the farmhouse porch where he would wait for his daily treat from the mailman. He was a playful dog and when the kids were small and riding the bus he would even board the bus himself some times. He helped countless choose and cut customers find their perfect tree every year and was a dog who loved lots of pats, rubs and kind words. We think some people came to the farm just to see Rex because he was everyone’s dog during the Christmas season. We will miss him more than words can express and we thank him for all his love and companionship for a large part of our lives!
