Every spring we test our yearlings for CAE, (senior animals are tested in the fall, prior to breeding season.) Young animals can carry antibodies from their dams, resulting in false results, so our vet recommends we wait and test at a year. Although we have never had a CAE positive animal, I still breathe a sigh of relief when the negative report arrives. Time to celebrate!🎉

These three diseases can be devasting to herds, and not only does Dr. Melissa bring her field expertise from working with clients at Caprine & Ewe Veterinary Consulting, PC, and her on-farm experience from managing her herd, Chubb E Acres Farm LLC, but she is also the Small Ruminant Research Associate & Lecturer at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Her new job is allowing her to dive into all the data from sample submissions to WADDL and we get to benefit from the insight today!
