For the average person, the problem is pretty straightforward…

You sleep like s**t → you feel like s**t → you train like s**t → you eat like s**t.

We can debate all the direct effects poor sleep has on hormones, recovery and body composition, but there’s also the obvious stuff right in front of us.

When you’re well rested, it’s easier to train hard, make better food choices, control your appetite and stay active.

And improving sleep doesn’t always require some crazy protocol.

-Get outside in the morning.
-Train during the day.
-Cut the caffeine earlier.
-Stop eating a massive meal right before bed.
-Keep the room cool and dark.
-Get off your damn phone.
-Go to bed around the same time every night.
-Check your IGF-1 and hormone levels.

Fixing your sleep makes almost everything else you’re trying to do easier.

And if you’re doing all that and still sleeping like crap…especially if you snore like a freight train…wake up gasping or never feel rested…get yourself checked for sleep apnea.

Here’s the thing with peptides…

The question isn’t whether they work.

It’s whether you actually need what you’re taking.

Start with the problem you’re actually trying to solve.

Then decide whether a peptide even makes sense for that problem.

Peptides aren’t baseball cards. You don’t need to collect them all.

The thing about stress…

It’s is a physiological response to one of two things…a psychological event or an event in reality.

We can become stressed simply by thinking or we can become stressed by an event that happens in life.

Most of our stress isn't from an event in life but most often it's our perception of the event.

It’s usually a result of letting yourself stew in it and placing blame and becoming a victim to circumstances.

And no matter how hard you try to live a perfect life, it’s there.

So rather than allowing stress to take over your body and your mind…you want to work on being more resilient it.

Every morning you wake up is an opportunity to intentionally decide who you are going to be.

If you choose to be stressed out…

Guess what? It will likely show in your face and body as stress and inflammation are highly correlated.

This is one of those underrated pieces of advice that many people overlook when it comes to building a good physique, being healthy and being fit…

If you’re always stressed out, you’re leaving a lot of gains on the table

Chasing a nasty pump is still one of the best parts of lifting.

Not every set needs to be heavy as f**k or taken to the absolute limit.

Sometimes I’ll finish a body part with 1-2 higher-rep sets in the 15-25 range.

Lighter weight, controlled reps, constant tension, short rest (

We all know compounds lifts should make up the bulk of your training. No debate there.

But isolation lifts work as well.

Some of my staples:

Chest — Incline DB fly
Back — Straight-arm cable pulldown
Delts — Rear delt fly
Biceps — Preacher curl (E-z curl bar)
Triceps — Single-arm overhead extension (using cuff at end)
Quads — Leg extension
Hamstrings — Romanian Deadlift

You don’t need 15 different exercises for every body part.

Get strong on your compounds. Then use isolation work to hammer the F out of the muscle…bring up weak points and add volume without beating the s**t out of yourself.

Heavy compounds followed by smart isolation work.

Pretty simple recipe for getting jacked.

What are favorite isolation lifts for each body part?

Most of these “testosterone boosting” supplements are overhyped AF.

Don’t fall for it.

Yes, some can bump total testosterone a little, especially if you’re deficient in something.

That doesn’t mean your free testosterone moves with it…

If SHBG stays elevated or climbs along with total T that extra testosterone is largely getting bound up.

You can go from 450 to 550 total T and barely change the amount of free T available to your tissues.

That’s not enough to suddenly pack on muscle, get stronger, burn more fat or dramatically change your libido.

While a 20% bump on a blood test sounds impressive, a 20% bump that barely changes free T means very little in the gym and for symptom relief.

Remember, higher total T doesn’t automatically mean more usable testosterone.

You want to focus on free, not on total.

The longer I train…the more value I see in isolation work.

Heavy compounds still make up the foundation of my training. I’m never giving up presses, squats, rows, pull-ups, etc.

But you can only do so much heavy lifts before fatigue starts piling up and your joints take a beating.

Isolation exercises let you add quality volume without the same recovery cost.

They’re also great for bringing up lagging body parts and learning how to actually feel and control the muscle you’re training.

A few hard sets of lateral raises, curls, pushdowns, flyes or leg extensions can go a long way without burying yourself.

Do the compounds.

Then use isolation work to add volume where you need it.

No need to complicate things more than that…and whatever you do don’t do squats and deadlifts on the same day.

I think there’s tremendous value in getting absolutely shredded at least once in your life.

Get down to that crazy low body fat. See your abs. See the veins. Learn what that level of discipline actually takes.

Same with getting strong as f**k.

There’s value in pushing yourself to the extremes because you learn what you’re capable of.

But that doesn’t mean you need to LIVE there.

Being 5-7% body fat year round isn’t the goal for 99% of guys.

For most people, the sweet spot is probably somewhere around 10-15% body fat for men and 20-25% for women.

Lean. Muscular. Athletic. Strong. You move well. You feel good. You look good with your shirt off.

But you can also go out to dinner, have some drinks, eat dessert, miss a workout and not have a f**king mental breakdown over it.

Once you’ve experienced both ends of the spectrum…you start figuring out where that sweet spot is for YOU.

You still train hard.

You still eat well.

You still give a s**t.

Fitness just stops running your entire f**king life…

That’s the place I want to be.

Down the shore for the weekend so decided to drop into the local gym.

Has the grungy, old-school Gold’s Gym vibe to it

Mostly all muscle heads and hot and very fit chicks…

My kind of place.

I fit right in and look the part but I have to admit, felt a little intimidated at first.

Something about stepping foot into a new scene with new people.

Can only imagine how someone overweight and out of shape feels going into a commercial gym for the first time.

Must be a tough thing to overcome.

“I can’t gain muscle, WTF?”

1. What are you eating every day?

2. How many TIMES are you eating per day?

3. How many times are you training per week?

4. Are you sure you’re training hard enough?

5. How have you been sleeping?

6. WHAT are you eating?
