✅ Get to know him:

It all began when Joel discovered the magic of mushrooms almost 20 years ago. What started off as a hobby of growing mushrooms on denim and old cardboard boxes in his closet led to years of independent study on the medicinal benefits of mushrooms and cultivation techniques.

In 2015, Joel was invited to intern at Mushroom Mountain in South Carolina. Within two weeks, Joel was asked, “What will it take to keep you here?” At Mushroom Mountain, Joel led farm tours, facilitated workshops, managed their lab, and made significant improvements to the overall cultivation side of operations.

In 2020, Joel wanted to bring this same great knowledge and passion for mushrooms back to his home state, establishing The Oklahoma Mushroom Company! Mae joined him in 2022 as the operations manager, keeping the business running smoothly while also playing a key role in the cultivation process.

Together, Joel and Mae manage their homestead and raise their four children, ensuring the family stays rooted in both the business and the land while providing the best, freshest, high-quality mushrooms and specialty products.

Big season of gratitude and growth over here!!!

MushCo turned 5 this past October!! What started as a small mushroom project has grown into a thriving local farm, and we’re incredibly thankful for everyone who has supported us along the way.

A huge shoutout to the restaurants that believe in local food and choose to source from small farms like ours. We’re grateful for longtime supporters and excited to be working with new partners like Elote and the McNellie’s Group. Seeing our mushrooms on local menus never gets old.

On the home front, we welcomed our baby boy Feb 23rd!! Mom and baby are healthy, and we’re slowly settling back in and getting ready for the spring market season.

March 20th & 21st, we’ll be at the Okie Homesteading Expo on Friday and Saturday. Joel will be a guest speaker teaching a low-tech mushroom cultivation class for anyone interested in growing their own food.
