In the middle of the night, Jacob came to the house, and then returned to his spot in the pasture. At the same time, the body of our oldest LGD, Emma, was giving up from old age.

My heart sinks thinking that Jacob wanted us to come out there and we completely missed it, but I also know that Emma would probably have preferred to be away from people, and right where she was- on top of a hill, on a beautiful night, with her flock and mentees.

Emma was indifferent to people, and caused problems protecting the newborn lambs from the ewes cleaning them off. But she also couldn’t have been more solid about staying with the sheep and being a witch to coyotes. While I can be grateful she passed in the best way possible, I sure wish she could have trained in one more replacement first.
