Unfortunately, the Red Cross turned us away when we came to talk to them about setting up outside and providing hot meals to people, free of charge... We are, however, already coordinating with Jefferson County EOC to coordinate hot meals for firefighters, onsite deputies, and support staff for tomorrow and future dates.
Gotta say, we're a little disappointed in the Red Cross for turning away hot fresh meals for people who are going to be displaced for the next 6 weeks, especially when they have no kitchen facilities on site, according to the Red Cross rep who stopped us at the door. We left our contact information and let them know that we are available in the future should they need us to provide hot meals.
