Sack Lunch Saturdays

Sack Lunch Saturdays Since 2019, we've been making sack lunches to help support a variety of nonprofit organizations in our community.

We are NOT a nonprofit organization, but we are a group of dedicated & passionate folks who believe no one should ever be hungry in Colorado!

What a wonderful surprise today in Woodland Park.
We stopped by Wayback Burgers thinking we were simply going to grab a bite to eat. Instead, we walked away with something even better — a meaningful connection with another business owner who truly cares about people and community.
The food was absolutely delicious. Juicy burgers, crispy onion rings, and that classic comfort-food feeling that makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. But what made the visit special wasn’t just the meal — it was the conversation.
We had the pleasure of meeting Claudia, the owner, and learning about the heart she pours into her business. Claudia isn’t just serving great burgers; she’s serving her community. When she heard about our Sack Lunch initiative, where we prepare meals for people in need, she immediately stepped in with generosity. She donated hot chocolate for our sack lunches and even offered cheese for our meals. That kind of kindness speaks volumes.
Sometimes you meet people who simply understand the mission of caring for others. Claudia is one of those people. Her compassion doesn’t stop in Woodland Park either — she also carries a deep love for her hometown of Toronto and continues to extend her service wherever she can.
What inspired me even more is that Claudia is preparing to go on a mission trip to Durham, North Carolina. Her desire to serve goes far beyond her restaurant walls.
This chance meeting reminded me that when people who care about community cross paths, amazing things can happen.
So if you're in Woodland Park, stop by Wayback Burgers. Enjoy the delicious food, support a local business owner with a huge heart, and if you can, consider supporting Claudia as she prepares for her mission trip.
Good food. Good people. And a beautiful reminder that community is built one act of kindness at a time.
Thank you, Claudia, for your generosity and for being a shining example of what it means to serve others. ❤️

We’re excited to share that we’ll be featured on the Small Business Showcase with B-rad Vogleman, talking about something that truly matters to us—how food trucks, small businesses, and community members can work together to support our unhoused neighbors.
During the show, we’ll share more about the work Food Trucks Against Homelessness is doing on the ground, the incredible ways our community continues to show up, and how even the smallest act of kindness can ripple outward to change someone’s day—or even their life.
A special thank you to Dr. Lauren Penn for sponsoring FTAH on March 21 through the Sustainable Fashion Show fundraiser. When local leaders use their platforms to shine a light on real community needs, it creates meaningful impact.
We’re grateful for every opportunity to share the mission, build partnerships, and remind people that real solutions happen when a community chooses to care. ❤️🌮🚚

No matter the weather—rain, sleet, sun, or snow—the show must go on! We kicked off the year with our first community engagement event on January 10, making sack lunches. We got started at 9 AM, but faced a few hiccups, mainly because the snow kept some of our regular volunteers at home. Thankfully, we had a surprise guest—Lauren Penn came from Thornton with a new team member just as our seasoned volunteers were gathering supplies. In the end, five dedicated volunteers helped us wrap up by 1:30 PM, and we managed to prepare 340 sack lunches! The best part? Three local nonprofits now have meals to share with our neighbors in need. Here’s to more successful events ahead!

🩸 JANUARY: National Blood Donor Month

January is National Blood Donor Month, a time to recognize the life-saving power of giving blood. In the U.S., someone needs blood every two seconds, yet only about 3% of eligible people donate each year. Winter months are especially critical—donations often drop due to weather, illness, and busy schedules, while the need remains constant.
Blood donations support trauma care, surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illness, and emergency response. One donation can help up to three people. Giving blood is one of the simplest ways to show up for your community and remind someone that their life matters.

One donation. Three lives. January reminds us that giving blood is giving hope.

🍎 JANUARY: Poverty Awareness Month
Why Sack Lunch Matters

January is Poverty Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge a reality many face every day—hunger doesn’t take a day off. Sack Lunch matters because food is dignity, and dignity reminds people they are seen, valued, and loved.
We may not know everyone’s story, but we know this: hungry families, children, and individuals need care and connection. Everyone is our neighbor. When we feed the body, we nourish hope—and hope builds bridges.
In addition to meeting immediate needs, financial awareness and education can help bridge long-term gaps. When we support access to resources, knowledge, and opportunity, we strengthen entire communities.
Let’s bridge the gap—together.

We wish everyone a happy holiday. We finished strong. This year we did 10 months of sack lunches and we had over 100 volunteers to help us. We donated 120 hours of our time. Time looks like getting the supplies, materials, making of the sack lunches, and delivering them to the nonprofits. We had over $300 in monetary donations and countless materials donated to us. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the kindness extended to us for our community. If the river don’t rise and the Lord saith the same we will be back next year.
