It is with great sadness that we report that Petunia has passed away.

Born to a mom who was fighting numerous infections both pre and post birth, her little immune system just wasn't strong enough and her lungs suffered.

Only the second calf born on our farm, it just hit me pretty hard. With the assistance of both our vets, we tried very hard to save Mom and calf, but sometimes, it isn't meant to be.

Her mom, Bluebell, is getting better and we hope after a few months of rest and recovery, that she will continue to bring healthy calves in the future again.

Can't say enough positive about our new large animal vet, Dr. Dawson Clark of Colquitt Veterinary Hospital. Poor Bluebell began showing signs of Metritis this afternoon. He responded quickly after seeing a photo.

Between the heat wave & the infection, her fever is higher than either of us are comfortable with. I am grateful he came out and caught this so soon.

Fingers crossed our 2nd birthing mom, matriarch & grandmother of the half the herd, will be okay after a few days of meds.

Introducing Petunia, named by my biological father as they share a birthday today!

Mama Bluebell Cookies & Cream didn't need the stress of attending humans so decided she'd surprise me this morning during feeding with a beautiful heifer. 😍🥰
