☀️ Dory reporting today from Solar Flare Farm! ☀️

Last week, a new stinky guy arrived at the farm. My ma says he’s going to be staying for a while. He’s dark and handsome, but doesn’t seem to be too tall. She also said she’ll be officially announcing who he is to all of you soon!

And today… well, things got a little interesting around here… At first, I obviously wanted to be involved because I follow my mama EVERYWHERE. But then the guys started acting a little loony, and apparently my herd mates really enjoyed their silliness. Ma seemed pretty thrilled about it too, although I’m not entirely sure what was going on.

After that, I watched my parents clean the rabbit hutches for a moment I got a little scared and took off running from the tractor but once the tractor was turned off again, I supervised Ma while she spread fresh shavings in the chicken coop. She says she uses cedar shavings to help keep the bugs away.

Anyway, that’s the latest from the farm. I’ll probably try to sneak into the goat house later tonight when it’s bedtime. Ma will probably get mad at me, but it usually works out because she loves me. So, technically, I can get away with pretty much whatever I want. 😇

I finally got some glam shots of my sweet Solar Flare AB Carolina Wren!

FF, 12hr fill, 2.5 weeks fresh with a single. Wren is such a wonderful young doe. She has a butter-smooth udder with nice, open orifices and one of the prettiest front ends in our herd. I want to give a huge thank you to Rachel at Oakfield Nigerian Dwarf Goats. I can’t take all the credit for this girl! I purchased her dam pregnant, but I did choose the buck, and it created a promising young doe in Wren. We couldn’t be happier with her. ❤️

Appreciation post for the one and only Solar Flare aka The King aka Spotted Sausage. 👑

Flare’s personality is unmatched in so many ways. He’s easygoing, super mellow, and genuinely the sweetest fella. I couldn’t have asked for a better buck to start my herd. He’s also the inspiration behind my farm and the first Nigerian Dwarf I ever purchased.

He may not have all the fancy things on paper, like his *B or his +B (working on that + slowly but surely, and really betting on the pretty daughters he’s given me), but who he is and what he means to me means so much more than anything else.
He’s truly set the standard high, he’s one special boy and I’m so happy he’s mine. ❤️

Farm Update. Zinnia’s last milk test — I forgot to post it! I’ll be keeping an eye on her SCC count. She does seem to be trying to dry herself off, even though she’s still being milked every morning and her doeling, Katalina, is still nursing throughout the day.

As for breeding… well, shucks. I haven’t noticed any obvious heats besides Delta, and my only buck currently able to get the job done is Flare and that was not my plan. I’m not going to just throw whoever with whoever simply to get does bred. I do have a super cute backup plan if Lennie seriously can’t figure things out and the lineage is very similar (they are related lol). So, it looks like there won’t be any breeding announcements in September, which is a bit of a bummer. And yes! I HAVE tried many things to kick start him. For now, though, I’m done wasting my time on it. We’ll see what happens.

And finally… Lily… We had a very special doe leave our farm this week. I found a fabulous retirement home for Lily just down the road, and she is already busy making a little girl’s dreams come true. They adore her. Lily has always loved kids, so I think she’s going to be very happy in her new home. She’s living with another doe and a wether, and I couldn’t have asked for a better place for her to spend her retirement. It’s always bittersweet saying goodbye to a special doe, but knowing she’s loved and getting to make someone else just as happy makes it a whole lot easier ❤️ 🐐

First time outside… yes she really is this adorable… yes I already have a name in mind (Solar Flare Autumn Sparrow) and yes I definitely need a bigger goat house! 😭

Night Heron Farm Solar Flare VVV85 x Solar Flare AB Carolina Wren blessed us with a beautiful 2.7lb single doeling — yes, you read that right… a SINGLE DOELING! 🎉💕 She looks just like Wren but has frosted ears and a naturally polled head like Flare! Little girl is being retained for now while I take some time to evaluate her, I don’t need to keep another Flare doeling but ya know… hah… Wren absolutely adores her and maybe I do too, just a lil 👌🏼 😅
