There's something so magical about walking out to the garden and picking a fresh carrot from the ground. It soothes the soul to take part in the age old practice of growing and enjoying ones own food. I watch how proud my son is when he comes inside with a huge bowl of green beans that he just picked. I think he's especially proud because he knows that his daddy needs his sharp eyes to find the beans and that his daddy is depending on him. I watch my son as he walks through the spinach and herbs and pulls off a few leaves to snack on. There is much that the garden has to teach our children and ourselves. If not us, who will help them continue this magical practice of bringing life to the earth and to our souls? #gardeningforthesoul #growfood #freshcarrots #lessonsinthegarden #columbiacityphotographer #kathrynprotophotography #childphotography #childrenphotography #fortwaynephotographer #fortwaynefamilyphotographer
A little dirt never hurt! I just picked my breakfast. How do you prepare your veggies for breakfast? I'm sautéing broccoli, carrots, parsley and purselane today.
Saturday from 12-4 we will be selling a selection of herb pots, tomatoes, peppers, herbs and perennials at The Urban Attic Pop-up Shop to benefit Destiny Rescue. You'll want to be there! The shop will look amazing and there will be other local vendors and artists selling home decor, clothing and accessories, furniture, sweets and more.
It's time to plant your garden! Plant sale from 9-3 today!
We're transplanting raspberries for today's sale! Open 9-3. See you soon!
Germination has begun. Listening to Arcade Fire and literally watching plants grow.

Soil microbes have been found to have similar effects on the brain as Prozac without side effects and chemical dependency. Learn how to harness the natural antidepressant in soil and make yourself happier and healthier in this article.
We started seeding earlier this week, but today we're just hanging out and playing in the greenhouse!
Save the Date! Our Second Annual Plant & Garden Sale will be on May 6th and 7th!
There is still plenty of time to get your garden in! We have some great plants left so we'll be open for business at the farm this Saturday, May 16th, from 9am - 12 pm. (3099 W Lincolnway, 46725)
Kate will also have many of her birdhouses, barnwood signs and recycled/upcycled creations available.
See you Saturday!
A Very Big Thank You to everyone who came out for the plant and garden sale on Saturday. It was a success for us and we are planning on doing it again next year as well.
As the Sale grows, we'll grow and expand our offerings too! We're grateful for all of our friends and customers who supported the sale.
ALSO, we still have plants left so if you know someone who is still needing to fill their garden, pass along our info and tell them to get in touch with us. After taking an inventory later this morning, we may decide to run the sale this coming Saturday, May 16th, we'll let you know.
Thanks again, Happy Gardening!
Seth & Kate
Sale day! We're open until 3pm. Hope to see you soon!
More sneak peeks of the Plant And Garden Sale! Saturday 9-3.
We're getting excited for Saturday's sale! Rain or Shine! We'll have gifts for Mom...
The tomato plants are looking great! We have around a dozen varieties to choose from and at the sale there will be descriptions of each to help you choose. (If it's raining on Saturday, we will have everything set up inside one of our barns, so don't worry about keeping dry).
We'll be posting sneak peeks this week of our one-of-a-kind handmade items that will be for sale on the 16th. Here's one of our recycled barnwood and leather belt s'mores boxes! I'm kind of hoping that all of these don't sell so that we can keep one for ourselves ;).
Hello Everyone,
Our Plant & Garden Sale is on for Saturday, May 9th, from 9 am - 3 pm.
We have a dozen or so varieties of tomatoes, selected to offer a good spectrum of taste, color, size, and shape. We have heirloom varieties and hybrids, all of which are non-GMO and organically grown by us.
We also have several varieties of peppers, from sweet and mild to smoky and full of heat.
And everyone should have at least one Basil plant in their garden! We have many Basil plants as well as Italian Parsley.
All plants are $3, and we accept cash only.
Take a drive to the country and see what we're up to. Feel free to wander the garden after you pick up some high quality, locally grown plants.
Our farm is located on the Northwest side of Columbia City. 3099 W Lincolnway. (approx. 3.5 miles off of US 30, look for our signs and the white barn and house up on a hill!)
Happy Spring! Seth & Kate
Hello everyone,
Spring seed starting is well under way here! At this time, we want to let everyone know that we will not be attending a farmer's market this season. Instead, we will be focusing on improving our little homestead and enjoying more time with our families.
We ARE, however, planning on a PLANT SALE later this Spring. Whatever level of gardening experience you have, we plan on having plenty of high quality, non-GMO, and organically gown plants available to meet your growing needs.
We will send out further details about the Plant Sale and any other future special events on the farm as they approach.
Thanks for all the support the past few seasons and we hope to see you later this Spring at the farm!

Clearing out summer beds...LOTS of pepper available.
Sweet potatoes seem to be ready to harvest
Another good one.
Building a 'new' greenhouse out of part of our hoop house. A pretty fun project and a good day to make some progress.

September sunsets in indiana...
Prepping beds for fall lettuce.
Great morning for harvesting.
Making a big pot of potato leek soup, freezing what we don't eat right away. We make our own stock from chickens we roast which is super easy and well worth the time.
Making kale chips...extra virgin olive oil and kosher salt.
Tacos again! Smoked chicken breast, red bell pepper, jalapeño, cherry tomato, onion, Monterey Jack cheese...watermelon for dessert.
Gearing up for another round.
Kosher pickles, sweet relish, and tomatoes. We are probably done with the pickles and relish for the season but there are a LOT more tomatoes in the plan.
