It's National Pig Day! The Livestock Conservancy is instrumental in preserving heritage breed livestock, including pigs. They're one of the reasons that we chose to raise American Guinea Hogs, and have recently added Meishan pigs to the farm. Because we're small and serve a niche market, we're able to choose the animals we raise and enjoy helping to preserve these threatened breeds.

Today we celebrate pigs of all kinds, especially heritage pigs, which carry generations of traits like foraging ability, hardiness and mothering traits that helped them thrive on past farms and contribute to agricultural biodiversity. These qualities make heritage pigs uniquely valuable to our food system and conservation efforts.
