Our three year anniversary at the farm just recently passed and all at the same time it feels like we just moved in yesterday and have already been here for a lifetime. The amount that we’ve learned, the challenges we’ve faced, the number of bug bites and Google searches we’ve done - it’s all amazing. We are truly always tired and sore and grateful.

The common lifespan of homesteading or taking on a property like this is right around three years. That’s when reality and burnout set in and the constant maintenance and costs really start to add up. Families end up realizing that their dream isn’t exactly what they thought it would be and end up selling shortly after.

While some days (or weeks) are harder than others, I really feel like we’re actually starting to hit our stride instead of the end, like so many others do. We’re learning more about what we love (and don’t), we’re meeting so many wonderful people who understand our vision and want to see us succeed and we’re making this property really feel like our home.

I know I say it often, but we are so lucky. Can’t wait to see where the next three years takes us!

thewaitingroom_columbia is a soft place to land for those who find themselves in this process. They are a local support community offering care and resources dedicated to women navigating infertility, miscarriage and fertility treatments.

We were honored to provide bouquets for their August event this weekend. A small bit of encouragement and reminder of beauty and hope - that’s what I’ve always wanted Pierpont Farms to provide for the community.

Some days I’m thinking “what are we actually doing?” And other days it’s “we’re actually doing it!” But maybe that’s just how farm life goes, or life and adulting in general.

The August gardens are absolute chaos, but they’re blooming and surviving this heat for the most part! Some areas more beautiful than others but I think it’s our most successful year yet. San Marzano tomatoes are going crazy, and so is the pumpkin trellis. I find myself walking the tunnel daily to see if I can find new pumpkins and it brings me so much joy!

Not quite ready for the weekend to be over already. They seem to fly by faster and faster lately.

I was lucky enough to spend this week off work (yes, we also have full-time jobs!) and fully focused on the farm. What a needed reminder of how much I love what we’re doing, especially when I’m able to drink my coffee a little slower with the dogs and really take it all in. This little corner of the world is truly magic and we’re so lucky to be here, bringing it to life.
