Good Morning and Happy Thursday everyone!

Are we ready for this next round of cold and blah weather about to head in our way???

Nope, not in the least little bit...

At the minimum we can all get out there and at least be good humans to one another - even if it is just one big ole circus show in life day after day!

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday everyone!

For those who stayed up to finish watching the game last night...

HOW ABOUT THOSE HOOSIERS BABY!!!!

I've not had time to look yet this morning though, please tell me they behaved and didn't destroy Bloomington overnight celebrating?!?!?

Let's caffeine up to get through the start of the morning and stay warm out there today πŸ˜‰

We're having a rather gusty Monday.

The weather, with its strong winds and cold temperatures, is quite unpleasant.

Let's warm things up this week.

It's an excellent time to begin our spring event announcements, shifting focus from the cold to the vibrant beauty of the season.

Starting this Thursday and each Thursday through February, we'll reveal one of our planned spring events at Serenity Valley, leading up to the 2026 season start.

There might even be a few giveaways along the way πŸ’πŸ˜‰

Let's talk about the beneficial insects. Is anyone utilizing the power of the beneficial insects to avoid the need of chemicals in the garden or for their landscape plant at home when they're able?

Now I'm not going to get on a soapbox about being πŸ’― unable to use all things because I understand that there are specific needs, places and times for certain applications.

However, just hear me out on the "when you're able to" & "how you & nature can benefit from doing so" for a second. Because we're going to not just talk about but also show a whole lot about this subject matter this coming season here at Serenity Valley.

Take for example this single Lady Bug (lady beetle). Did you know it can consume an average of 50 aphids in a single day. Or averages over 5k in its lifetime.

Even lady beetle lava feeds on the aphids. But aphids aren't the only pest that the lady beetles feasting upon that's preying upon your landscape and gardens, there are many others.

Lady beetles can be attracted into your landscape and gardens by bringing in any of the following items.

Flowers:
Cosmos, dill, fennel, marigolds, sunflowers, yarrow, cilantro, coreopsis, chamomile, sweet alyssum, angelica, mint, and parsley.

Decoy Plants or also called Trap cropping:
Nasturtiums and radishes can attract aphids, which ladybugs then prey on. This is also to provide plant to attract the aphids away from your other plants, such as landscaping and vegetables garden plant.

Let's see who's ready to start planting!!! And who already has their seeds, bulbs, roots or corns that are ready to go out and plant directly? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

We actually have plenty of things that need to go outside right now.

We're NOT going outside to plant them of while it's this cold - So there's that πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

One must be cautious not to get carried away this early.

It's a long time to go until the weather is nice & we can move plants outside 🀭

We can however continue to indulge with an occasional new addition to our guilty side by treating ourselves to fresh flowers from time to time to enjoy while we wait πŸ™ƒ

How are you passing the time while it's cold? πŸ₯Ά

Good Morning & Happy Thursday everyone!

Stay warm out there if you are going out this morning πŸ₯Ά January has decided to remind us it is officially still winter after all 🌨️ and appears these temperatures are going to hang around for the next week 🀒

Thankfully Spring is only 64 days away! πŸ₯°πŸ’ An we have a long weekend ahead to start seeding trays.

What are some spring blooms you'd like to see added to the U-Pick this season?

Or maybe there's a difference in color choices between Easter and Mother's day?

This is what the leafs look like after drying on the baby blue eucalyptus variety we tried.

Eucalyptus isn't supposed to overwinter in our Indiana zone 6. However there are growers in similar and slightly colder zones managing to over winter in the ground and without being in a greenhouse. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Only time will tell if it can become more than an annual here at Serenity Valley or not. We'll never know these things if we don't push our growing limit and run trials to test certain things to see what works and what fails πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Good evening everyone!

How's everyone doing this Tuesday evening?

If you see this but not the actual weather forecast and can safely assume there's a chance of snow or ice moving into the area over the next 24 hrs you might be from Indiana πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€£

That's alright this weather and the fact that it's still January isn't slowing down the pace around here at Serenity Valley any.

With our first delivery of mulch for the year, we checked off the list today.

We're planning to plant more spring bulbs & shovel mulch instead of snow by the weekend 😜
