Yesterday was an enjoyable day with my family and hope the rest of you dads had one too.

I made some Spanish garlic shrimp to go with Gaintza rosé. I picked up a NY strip this weekend, freshly cut by Chef Dan at The Hungarian Butcher, that just melted with every bite. Megan picked up garlic scapes at the Worthington Farmers Market so I made pesto adding some basil along with roasted tomatoes and bucatini. Since Megan had salmon, I went with a bigger pinot noir for a happy medium. Shea Vineyard from Winderlea Vineyard & Winery. Oh so good.

Earlier in the day, we hit up a Columbus Clippers game with tickets from a recent charity event. Awesome seats! After the game, the kids and I threw a baseball on the field.

It's always a better experience for us cooking a nice meal at home for holidays when everybody else is packing the restaurants. What do you prefer?

Happy 5th anniversary to our friends at Seek-No-Further Cidery in Granville, Megan's hometown. If there's been one constant at our shop, it's been a rotation of their ciders on draft. Garrett has crafted the best local cider we can find around here and their location is always a joy to visit.

They're celebrating today and you should too. We might be biased but you'd want to get there by 3pm to see Josh Eagle perform.

It's time for our weekly tasting! We're pouring these wines today through Sunday, open to close, for only $15.

We have the dry riesling from Apollo's Praise that we can't get enough of. An unoaked white Burgundy from VÉRIZET that's perfect for the warm weather. We have the newest vintage of Sottimano Maté, their nerdy dry brachetto that can take a slight chill. A beefy negroamaro from Giustini Wines in Puglia.

We just got the fresh vintage of rosé from Finca Torremilanos. Biodynamically-grown fruit from their younger tempranillo vines in Ribera del Duero. More skin contact gives it a deeper color along with more body. A big punch of red fruit teeters between rosé and a light red, like Tavel. Give it a chill and enjoy. We're drinking it on our porch as we speak.

A sneak peak of two of the wines for this week's tasting.

We discovered Apollo's Praise wines in the Finger Lakes last summer and we can now get them in Ohio. We featured their dry riesling for our wine club a few months. And it's so funny when three different couples who are in the club shared this wine with us in the past month. Paired with grilled pork chops. This wine is outstanding and shows the potential of both riesling and Finger Lakes Wine Country.

A new-to-us white Burgundy from Vintage Wine Distributor just arrived and we really enjoyed it. We paired with pesce all'acqua pazza. A great buy for under $20 retail.

Many of you have had the opportunity to taste the rose from thibaud.boudignon but we just received a small allocation of his Anjou Blanc. This chenin blanc is $56.99 while it lasts.

We couldn't describe him and the wines better than our friends at Skurnik Wines & Spirits.

"Thibaud Boudignon is unquestionably one of the most exciting figures in wine today. Originally from Bordeaux, it was in 2009 that he began to make wine under his own name from a scant 3.5 ha in the heart of Anjou and Savennieres. Knowing that the quality of his fruit was of most importance, he committed himself absolutely to the health of his vines, choosing to farm organically and spend the majority of his time in the vineyards. His devotion paid off quickly, for in just a few vintages, his name began to circulate among Loire growers, eventually to top restaurants in Paris, and finally overseas. The speed at which he has garnered so much praise speaks to the remarkable quality of his wines.

It is wines like these that make us remember why we love this business. Just when you think you’ve had the best a region has to offer, a new discovery comes along to rock your world. Boudignon is such a discovery, with wines that speak so clearly of their place of origin. It is in this writer’s humble opinion, that there is no greater dry Chenin Blanc being made in the world today. Period."
