Weeping Willow Farmette

Weeping Willow Farmette Weeping Willow Farmette has been a dream of ours that we decided was time to make a reality. We started our farm on just under 2 acres in Lancaster County.

We are first generation farmers who are intent on you knowing your farmer
We specialize in pasture raised pork from Kunekune pigs, a slow growing heritage breed & grass-fed/finished Highland beef First generation farmers who were passionate about raising animals humanely and as natural as possible and raising a product we could be proud about. It's important that when people buy from us they know

what they are getting. Know the farmer, know your food. We soon realized that in order to make our dream, of raising food for our family and community, a reality we needed to start looking for a farm. We moved 5 hours away from all our family & friends and risking a lot to make our dreams true. We don't expect it to be without its challenges or easy, but with hard work, a LOT of learning, trial & error, and a good sense of humor, we couldn't be more excited! We want to grow and raise our own food and also make it available to the community. Our beef is grass fed and finished Highland & Red Devon beef. Our pork is pasture raised Kunekune pigs supplemented with Non-GMO feed and we also sell registered & unregistered Kunekune pigs. Our chickens and eggs are all pasture raised and supplemented with Non-GMO, Soy-free feed. One thing I have always said was before we even started this journey was "We deserve better and so does our food." We deserve to know who raises our food, what its fed, whats is given or not given to it, what conditions are they raised in and how are the animals are treated. We deserve to know the farmer and their values and to ask questions. Our animals deserve to be treated with respect, out on pasture and their worst day be their last day. Our dream is big and sometimes overwhelming, but looking at it one task at a time it seems more attainable. So if you're interested in our journey...and all that it includes, then follow us and join us for the journey!

Hey farm friends! We have lots of exciting things happening at the farm!

We started seeds early in the year and the plants are finally going in the garden!

Nate and C**t were making fence posts from small trees they cut down when clearing the area for the garden. They started installing them to put up the fence at the farrowing barn. We have 2 litters of piglets due in the next month or two.

If you’re looking to add Kunekune pigs to your farm or homestead we will have harvest/companion barrows and registered boars and gilts for breeding available.

Taking animals to butcher is never taken lightly here. We have raised these animals and put so much time and care into each of them. They are born and raised here. We are truly a start to finish farm. When loading animals for harvest we always TRY and make loading as least stressful as possible on the animal. We are so thankful we get to see this process in its entirety , which gives us so much respect for these animals.

Lots of progress made with the excavator this weekend. Nate got about half of the bank cleared out , if not a little more, for the garden and pasture areas. He even had time to dig out the one barn door for me. C**t loved helping dad move dirt.

Pigs were moved to fresh grass and were thrilled.

When I say this is a family run farm, I absolutely mean it. C**t is our record keeper when it comes to worming, trimming feet, and new litters born.
When we work pigs we call out the ear tag numbers, he will find it mark down what we have done and if they are missing an ear tag he assigns a new number.
When piglets are born he marks down the s*x, color, and how many wattles they have. He is such a big help! We divided more pastures for better rotational grazing and he was thrilled to help put in posts and run wire.

Pigs we wormed last week we moved to a new pasture. The rest of the pigs we worked Friday and with the much appreciated help from one of Nate’s co-workers, on Saturday we were able to work the boars . We switched out breeding pairs and are excited for our up coming litters!

We made the most of the warm weather Friday and Saturday. We got two groups of pigs wormed and feet trimmed. Lots of pigs headed to their new homes this past week and weekend. The weaned calves were moved back in with the rest of the fold. The first batch of meat birds is in the brooder, and we got started on some of the spring clean-up for the farm.

We finally have eggs available. With the longer days and warmer temps the chickens are back to laying.

Our uncured smoked Kunekune bacon is restocked!

Highland beef is limited but we have more going to butcher at the beginning of May.

A weekend packed full of farm chores, fun and family time. All of which was needed.

The barn got a total clean out. Stalls get mucked daily and weekly we do a complete overhaul. Normally that doesn’t require much time because the barn is usually pretty empty. But right now we have a farrowing stall filled, bigger piglets in another stall and calves in 3 other stalls.

We separated Sage and Buttercup to wean them and handle them some before going to their new homes. We usually don’t sell heifer calves but we made the hard decision to sell these girls with plans of retaining females from the next calving season.

Pig shelters were filled to the top with hay as the weekend started with snow and the temps dropped low on Sunday.

Bowling with C**ts youth group was a fun filled evening. This was his first time bowling but definitely won’t be his last.
