After 3 amazing years, I’ve made the hard, but bittersweet, decision to start winding down Ujjo. I can’t express how thankful and awe-struck I have been by all of the people who supported my little joke-turned-business: the people who cheered me on and kept buying, even through a rough and uncertain economy. I wanted to keep it going for you, but truthfully the product is too niche for me to afford continue running it.

Ujjo was an amazing learning experience, and it’s given me so much—one of the best things being that it brought me closer to my dad, the person who first taught me to love spicy food. (In fact, Ujjo brought us so close that we now work together, something that I never would have seen a few years ago.) Through Ujjo, I’ve also met so many incredible, inspiring, funny, wacky, kind people, and I’m honored to have gotten to know you and work alongside you.

We are running pretty low on inventory, but we still have Spicy bottles available on the site for 50% off with the code BYEBYE. Maybe (hopefully) our paths will cross again through some other crazy Kickstarter, but if not, stay spicy and thank you again for everything.

I’m gonna be honest with you, the holiday season is already bumming me out because all day long, I’m being cajoled by companies I don’t know to buy crap I don’t want or need. I think there’s a fine line between making your products more accessible during the holidays and exploiting the urgency of the season to hit your numbers, and this year it feels like every single company is taking advantage of that delicate balance.

That’s why this holiday season, I’m trying a different approach: I’m applying an *automatic* 15% off discount to all products bought on www.ujjo.com through 11:59pm on 12/24—no flash sales, no onslaught of emails and texts, no targeted ads (and no reminders other than this one).

As a lot of you know, Ujjo started out as a joke and it still feels surreal that people around the world are buying *and enjoying* a product that I made. It’s something that I’m grateful for every single day, so if my hot sauce would make you or a loved one smile during the holidays, I want to make that a little easier during a super expensive and stressful time of year.

A lot of you folks know this, but Ujjo actually started out as a joke. Fast forward two years, and we keep hearing the same thing over and over again: people want to use Ujjo in other drinks too. SO, we’ve made the choice to reposition our products to show that versatility. The recipes are exactly the same so nothing’s changed from a product perspective, but hopefully this will make Ujjo more accessible and fun for those of us who don’t drink coffee 😊

Am I the only one who starts going into hibernation as soon as the temp drops below 75? I woke up this morning and didn’t want to do anything but curl up with a book and a piece of pie…but since that wasn’t really an option, I decided that treating myself to a spicy little fall drink was the next best thing.

If you’ve never heard of a French soda, it probably sounds pretty wacky off the bat…but it’s no wackier than a hot sauce for coffee 😉 A typical French soda uses sparkling water, syrup, and a splash of half and half, but I decided to simplify it (and zhuzh it up) by subbing in a pumpkin cider for the sparkling water. The great thing about this drink is that it works well in hot weather, in cold weather, and it takes less than 5 minutes to put together. Try it out and let me know how it goes!

Ingredients:
- 1 12 oz can pumpkin cider (I like Pumpkin Blend)
- 1 tsp Dark Roast Ujjo
- 1/4 cup coconut cream
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch ginger
- 1 pinch cloves
- 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)

Steps:

1. Whisk your coconut cream in a small bowl until frothy and smooth (make sure to get out all the lumps!)
2. Pour cider into a glass and mix Dark Roast Ujjo, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and honey (if you want it extra sweet). Be careful not to stir too vigorously, because it will start to fizz!
3. Top with coconut cream.
4. Grab your flannel, light a candle, and bask in autumnal glory. 🍂

Okay okay I know it’s still 80 degrees outside, but the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back and so I’m officially ready for fall 🍁 I’ve been trying to cut back on my drinking, so this is a fun nonalcoholic spin on one of my all-time favorite fall drinks: mulled wine. With a 1-2-3 punch from Pinot, rum, and Light Roast Ujjo, it has that warming heat that’ll make you swear this has booze in it (even when you made it yourself and you know that it doesn’t)😉
