Did you know that every part of the sunflower is edible. Leaves, flowers, stem. The goats heartily agree. FREE Upick Sunflowers this week and probably next. Bring your own clippers and. bucket. We rolled the dice and did a late planting of sunflower seeds this year for an October U-pick to avoid the midsummer heat. Deer did a number on the crop and the field isn’t as big and bodacious as prior years but there are still many hundreds or even thousands out there to enjoy and pick. They are spaced more widely apart which actually makes for easier picking. Full disclosure, the field is patchy in places. We used bird seed to save on seed cost and the type definitely varies from daisy like heads to classic looking sunflowers. So starting tomorrow and running for the next couple of weeks free upick during our regular open hours (Wednesday to Saturday 11am to 5pm and Sundays noon to 5pm).
As always, BYOB&C…..Bring your own bucket and clippers. Good shoes for field walking are a must.
The pictures in this reel were taken a couple days ago when the blooms were just starting to open.
No rush to get here, there should be plenty available over the next couple of weeks.
Still free, still fun and always beautiful and now cooler weather too!

The storm has moved through with a tailwind of clouds swirling behind it. Our Farmstore is open today from noon to 5pm. A sky like this and a cheeseboard go great together.
You can find Max & Sam working the Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest at Oak and Grist Distilling Co. today in Black Mountain. It’s put on by the WNC Cheese Trail to support and promote WNC Cheesemakers and beyond. They have a Tally Ho, some Green River Blue, Raclette style!, raw milk Bear Wallow, and Magnolia with them to sample and sell.

We’re closing the store today (Saturday 10/10/26) due to the weather rolling in but we plan on being open tomorrow at noon when the clouds are set to clear.

Kathy’s on her way to setup at Landrum Farmers Market | South Carolina this morning. It’s open and indoors so you can stock up on good food before the worst of the storm hits. We’re in a holding pattern for the Farm Store, we’ll make a determination if we’re open today ( Saturday) or closed due to weather by 10am.

Beef is back! All cuts, ground, soup bones, etc. PLUS our first round of pork is in the freezer too. Lots of breakfast sausage, ground, ribs and thicker cut chops.
Finally made Black & Blue Jam yesterday too so find that on the shelf in the farm store today.
We’re getting ready for Music tonight on the farm starting at 5:30 sharp. We have a great lineup with all performer spots filled so don’t be late or come early. Store will be open.

The first act will appreciate it. Great musicians all night long, beautiful farm & sunset and it’s free. What could be better? Music, community, fun. Kids activity table, family friendly, fun for all. Bring a blanket or chair. Store will be open with regular service. Come see your community.🩷
