It's always a sad day on the farm when we lose one of our own. Avian predators are the most difficult to ward off and hens are always the easiest prey.
Yesterday we lost the BEST rooster. Harry, son of Harold, was hatched from our eggs in the 2021 Kindergarten class at St. John Fraser. Harry was the most kind and gentle with all (unlike his father, Harold) but fierce to predators.
Harry fought a great fight when a giant hawk attempted to attack our hens. Harry gave it his all but ultimately lost the battle and sacrificed his life while saving his flock. Harry was 4 yrs young and he served his flock well in all those years.
Going through years of pictures we found some good ones of Harry, including when he was young. Some great pictures of Harold, compliments of Lindsay Binder, are also included. Harry and Harold had a striking resemblance.
Harry, you were a good protector and farm companion! RIP!
