Hey Friends!

BZ and I are looking for some help splitting this pile of rounds. We had a couple of folks from Spokane lined up to help but they ended up having unexpected visitors and can't make it.

BZ has this big hydraulic wood splitter he built (being a jack of all trades and all) that attaches to his backhoe and so it makes the job go relatively quick if we have someone with a strong back (mine is not so strong anymore, alas) to feed the splitter and toss the split wood into a pile to dry. BZ operates the splitter. I set the rounds I'm fed into it. Three maybe four hours. We're looking at Monday or Tuesday or some time this coming week. We would really appreciate any help. We're about an hour north of Colville.

Call and leave a voicemail or text at 914-246-0309 or email us at [email protected].

Okay, so here's the thing. Here's this 20-acre permaculture homestead. It's all set up to be a working farm. There's tools and equipment. A vast irrigation system. Fresh, cold clean, abundant, spring water. Deep, high-organic-matter, virtually stone-free soil. The 76 year-old owner is committed to donating the land and everything on it to a land trust that you could belong to and live here with NO BUY IN and NO RENT. It's already in his will and an easement to set it all up poised to be filed with the county this year. The two people here (the owner-- here for over 35 years-- and a project partner in his 69th year with almost 5 years on the land) believe in no power hierarchy, favoring a horizontal shared governance system. It's beautiful, quiet, secluded and off the grid. Building structures can be done legally without permits and inspections (thanks to many county residents here being of the "Don't Tread On Me" persuasion). We've been broadcasting for years to attract folks to come and be part of the project and we are dumbfounded that no one as yet has fully joined the community with a serious long-term commitment. Folks! This kind of opportunity you don't see every day. In fact, this is really a once in a lifetime opportunity. Face it. The vast majority of young folks who want to leave the rat race behind and get real with their life direction will NEVER have enough green to buy land this good-- whereas here, all you have to do is show up (after being invited, of course). Show up. Contribute time, effort and minimal funds to the commons while arranging your day-to-day your way. Pursue your own passions. Develop your own skills. Cobble together your own version of Right Livelihood. Be secure in your home. Yes, it's not an easy life. Living on a homestead and having to do many things yourself means the days are busy and you're tired when the sun goes down. But it's a good tired. A fulfilled tired. Isn't that what you want? Jeez. Where IS everybody? Please check out bzfarm.org.

To Folks in the Colville area:

We have fresh "Permaculturally-Grown" Duck Eggs from our farm up near Northport. They come from our small flock of heritage Ancona ducks. We feed them locally-grown sprouted barley and Red Bridge Farm's "All Flock" locally sourced poultry feed processed in Kettle Falls. These ducks are also great foragers so they naturally supplement their feed. The eggs are big, rich and delicious. $8/dz. Contact us to arrange how to get some for your table. Email: [email protected] - 914-246-0309 (voicemail/text).
